Pros

Competitive pay to those who they "value" and consider "high performers". If you know how to "manage up", you will do great.

Cons

- completely tainted my perspective of how a Japanese company runs their business. If all of them are like Santen, then I don't ever want to work for a Japanese company again. - a Japanese company trying to run its US operation pretending to be Americans. They are control freaks in every corner and sending Japanese Expats with no experience to head each business unit. - they will never be a global company. They will remain a Japan centric bureaucracy. - if you are a women, you have no hope of being promoted. While they promote men who were not qualified, they would do everything to keep women submerge under their male counterparts. - yes, there is definitely discrimination against female. And if you complain to HR, be sure that your name is on their "push out" list. Many female employees have experienced being discriminated one way or the other. - DO NOT trust HR. They "save face" by " listening to you and turned around to "phase" you out.

Pros

Pay and PTO is decent

Cons

Mediocre incompetent workforce who do not want to accomplish anything but just collect paychecks. Management lacks vision as where to take the company. Morale is really low due to no FDA disapproving their first product launch in the USA. Employee retention is super low. Nobody wants to work there. HR is useless. Every competent employee leaves only after few months. Zero growth opportunity as only the Japanese ExPats are in higher level management. Bunches of paper pushers. Zero sense of urgency to get anything done. Senior leaders are not capable of making any decisions. Marketing leaders have zero commitment for the company. There is unbalance of what some people get paid and can spend on travel etc. Awful place to work, and if you are honest, competent employee, who enjoys to get the job done, you are considered aggressive and get pushed out.

Pros

Competitive compensation (however, no equity in company), 13 paid holidays (unless you're a contractor), quiet office space, small R&D company, liberal bonus (set by yearly goals)

Cons

Zero engagement from senior management, absent President/CEO (no experience or energy for the role), no COO, over-inflated titles, some departments are larger than needed, no career development, no culture, favoritism, no accountability, most decision are made in the parent company, no achievable direction for the long and short term, small pipeline
