Warning For Potential Employees! STAY AWAY!
Pros
I guess the best thing about the agency is that they manage to line-up some interesting clients and she seems to like the internship program.
Cons
On first meeting Sarah, she seemed nice and offered a unique perspective on PR, however, once I got hired and started my brief stint with the agency, that VERY quickly turned into wondering every day what was going to happen when I walked into work. At the time, everyone sat in a relatively small rectangular office and Sarah worked from her own office only separated by glass doors. My second day in the office really set the tone for the rest of my time there. I watched the owner of the company come back from a lunch meeting and while walking into the office, begin berating some poor person on the other end of the phone, spouting off every possible swear word in the book. While there is nothing wrong with getting upset with someone, her behavior was UNBELIEVABLY unprofessional in front of her staff. You would almost think Sarah was starting a riot, rather than being the owner of a professional agency. I got the feeling that this happened on a regular basis. Other than that, Sarah Hall may have been the MOST closed-minded person I've ever met in my time doing PR. If it wasn't her way, according to her, there's NO way it could be right. Having had nearly 10 years experience when I went to the agency and dozens of top-tier clips to prove it, I had habits I had developed on how to get the best results, but each time I tried to use them, was told it was her way and no other. So if you are considering working at Sarah Hall Productions, be prepared to mindlessly pick up the phone to pitch her script EVERY day from 10 am - noon and 2 pm - 5 pm. And while I don't have a problem making calls to members of the press, many press members were shocked that I had called them rather than e-mail them with a story idea but that was S.O.P. at Sarah Hall Productions. And if by chance, the media member happened to ask for a follow-up email with details and I started to email them when I hung up the phone, I would get berated that we don't do that until off hours. I even got yelled at on more than one occasion while I scrolled through the media list to find my next contact that I wasn't, "On the phone". Oh, and speaking of media lists -- Don't even think of putting together your own media list in some form of neat, easy-to-read Excel spreadsheet. They had a master press list in a Word document cluttered with notes from every possible previous client that may total over 60 pages long. It was SO frustrating to know there was a better and more efficient way to do follow-up while being forced to used such an outdated procedure.
