Pros

- Generally good work hours - Working with students - Lots of PTO

Cons

- So many management positions that are unnecessary. There are bunch of random positions that literally do nothing for the organization except critique and whine about the Scholar Coaches. My supervisor specifically often would critique me for "not doing enough" outside of tutoring students and reviewing an abundance of STEM courses. If Schuler truly cared about their students, they would invest more into the FINANCIAL well-being of student-facing employees. - Scholar coaches are under payed. They even hired a third-party to evaluate the salaries of employees, only to find out that I hadn't worked long enough to receive an inflation salary increase. Like we're literally in a recession right now....I just want to be able to afford living? - Little diversity. Enough said. - Meaningless tasks. I understand almost every job is about 20% actual work and 80% pretend like you're doing stuff, but at least most managers that I encounter are on the same page about that and don't micromanage you. At Schuler it seemed like they were just lying to themselves with how much work they actually had to do, which normally achieved nothing for the students. - TLDR; if you're a recent college graduate, spare yourself the mental torture and apply somewhere else. You'll probably get paid the same amount anyway for a job you actually enjoy.

Pros

Occasionally help students and make a difference. You also learn how broken American education is and how philanthropy, particularly from the well meaning, but unaffected further exacerbates the flaws. If your a highly motivated students, I would recommend working directly with a highschool rather than through this top-down organization that makes use of its power and influence to make high-school student voices the least valued, in my view at-least.

Cons

In my view, a structurally flawed vision that views high achieving students as commodities. This starts at the top, with people in their gilded offices making decision far away from student experiences. Student not meeting standards? Kick them out! Often times this decisions are made to protect the "Schuler Brand", something coaches will be taught is the most valuable asset. Your better off working for a grassroots organization that commits to its population then one that arbitrarily chooses winners and losers.
