Pros

I was paid on time. ScopusIT responded to texts and emails promptly.

Cons

I was submitted as a candidate at Google for a job in a previous year, and because they'd got a req for the same title, ScopusIT submitted me again, assuming I would be interested. Despite being put in for a job without my consent, I decided to interview, was offered the job, and then took it. I couldn't start on the requested date, and requested a start two weeks later. ScopusIT told me Google attempted to withdraw their offer without any explanation. ScopusIT assured me this wasn't possible because it was a violation of their agreement with Google, and to stand by. Nothing happened for two weeks. Then I received an offer to start at my requested date. ScopusIT sent me forms to fill out and told me I’d hear from Google. I was shipped a laptop by Google IT and given specific instructions about how and when to activate my corporate account, but otherwise never contacted by my team. This seemed strange to me. From my first day I started, it was clear that I wasn't needed or wanted there. My team seemed to come up with things to keep me busy when I contacted them, but otherwise didn't contact me, check in, or manage my work. The more I tried to make myself useful and interpret the requests I did get, the more irritated and frustrated they seemed. Eventually, my manager stopped responding to my messages and avoided me, handing me off to one team then another for make work projects. When I attempted to address this with ScopusIT, they suggested my teammates had personal problems, and were intimidated by me. They didn't make any attempt to help. This was a red flag for me, a sort of reverse gaslighting. ScopusIT warned me bringing it to Google management's attention would be personally awkward for me my team had only one contractor, so I would be singled out. They suggested it would likely result in the end of the contract because they didn't have any other openings for a similar role at the moment. Another red flag, just regular gaslighting. ScopusIT offered to look for other specialist design roles (similar to the one I’d accepted), and then sent me postings for graphic design and others I wasn’t qualified for. This effort did not seem genuine, since they'd previously acknowledged I was hired for specialist work. Ultimately I think that created a worse impression on my Google team by trying harder. I continually attempted to add value, writing at least 100 pages of documentation, reports, and playbooks. By attempting to make a contribution and show value, it forced my team to engage with me when they were avoiding it. In my final 3 weeks, the only communication I got from Google or ScopusIT was a reminder to return my laptop when my contract expired. This was a confusing, stressful experience that felt challenging every day for no reason I could understand or that anyone told me. I feel fortunate to have met a number of good people outside my team, and to have seen a bit of the inside of Google. Finally, I feel fortunate for this experience with ScopusIT. I will never again assume the best of a company whose business model is taking a percentage of my gross earnings. As I've learned that's a conflict of interests for them. They will do anything to keep you placed as long as possible, even if it's stressful and unproductive for everyone else involved, because they're getting paid by the hour too!
