Used to be a great company, but look elsewhere for a job.

Pros

Good quality products, Made in the USA, employees take pride in the products they build, community involvement, emphasis on safety, health, & wellness, 3 weeks vacation. Great company values, but need to apply to all employees.

Cons

Wide range of salaries: high salaries for new hires with little experience, below market salaries for people who have been around and actually do the work, instances of employees earning more than their managers. High turnover, lack of leadership, uneven distribution of workloads. Continuous layoffs.

Pros

Many of the employees have been with the company for over 15 years and have a passion for the company and the products that they make. It is nice to work for a company that truly saves the lives of firefighters and military personnel. The products are also all Made in the USA.

Cons

The company is part of Tyco Fire and Security (a multi-billion dollar company), and they are "re-organizing" much of the Scott's supporting departments i.e Finance, IT, HR Purchasing, which has caused a lot of mistrust, turn over, and an overall bad culture/environment.

Pros

There are plenty of opportunities to learn, if you have the individual drive and expect to be rewarded nothing for your individual effort (except more work. Very clean and has a culture of safety. Onsite cafeteria is convenient.

Cons

Terrible management, little to no clear direction, conflicting priorities. Projects are prioritized by which manager or director's career will benefit and not what is best for the bottom line. They will boast about record high EBIT however there are still minimal to no raises, firings for minor reasons and layoffs. This has led to an environment of fear, mistrust, and overall unhappiness.
