Pros

• There are some wonderful, smart people at SCC. • Great opportunity to gain clinical experience across many facets of the mental health field. • Supervision towards licensure & opportunities for professional development paid for by SCC. • The Center pays for all supplies and clinical tools.

Cons

• Staff is micromanaged by supervisors - time sheets, hours worked, use of sick and annual time, etc. are all watched closely. There are trackers upon trackers to input dates and times of work completed to help supervisors determine whether we are meeting deadlines. • Staff is micromanaged! Staff in the school based department must fill out a second time sheet detailing where they spend their 8 hours per day so supervisors believe they have been working all 40 hours and not....twiddling their thumbs? • Rather than asking staff for feedback on how to improve work flow, supervisors use punitive means (intimidating, confrontational meetings and write-ups) and add way more work for staff. • SUPER low morale - every employee at SCC hates it and is looking for other jobs. • Low morale leads to high staff turnover.

Pros

Gas reimbursement for work travel. Training opportunities

Cons

The pay is pitiful. . I worked their for two and a half years and made $13.40. Basically the pay I was hired at the entire time. You aren’t compensated properly for all the work you put in, let alone the emotional toll the job has. The company cared very little during Covid and still pushed for employees to go out to “get more billable.” We didn’t get a raise in our most recent union contract.

Pros

Excellent first step in starting in the mental health field. The supervisor in the adult outpatient dept. was wonderful and had a genuine interest in what his employees had to say and took our thoughts on changes that needed to be made into consideration (and sometimes implementation) regularly. The staff in the dept., excluding a select few, were highly supportive and were like a family when the rough days came around. After 6 months you become eligible to work "overtime" by going to the crisis dept. at the hospital which is a nice addition to your check.

Cons

The caseload for any therapist or doctor was heavily over saturated and expectations for paperwork/appointments was too high. Burnout has been an ongoing problem at SCC and therapists don't tend to stay for more than a year or two before they have to find something else. Pay was also not great; I shouldn't have been eligible for food stamps while working full time in my degree field. Upper management (above my dept. super) also treated employees poorly.
