Pros

You get to learn the integration industry. Provides plenty of opportunities to work in different environments (everything to small mom and pop shops up to large enterprises). Gain that valuable experience and then apply to one of the giant integrators.

Cons

Low paying for technicians and sales positions compared to similar sized companies. Not large enough to have the buying power of Tyco or Protection 1, so your quotes are those all important 3-5 points higher and you lose bids because of it. Commission percentage was lower than average and was capped in my branch.

Pros

Good sales crew able to bring in quality business, able to share business with other out of state franchises that can keep the company in business if business slows. Owner is very passionate about the business and needs other employees that share his values and high level of understanding the security industry.

Cons

Good owner, cares about the business, relies and invests too much faith in his operation manager, who really isn't a project or operation manager. In fact the time that I worked there I think I spoke with him about job progress and budgets 6 or 7 times. This is no way to manage a new PM or a job that has been failing for over 1 or 2 years. His lack of communication and management skills project to the rest of his team who have a hard time understanding their role and how to help and be proactive rather than to delegate and pawn off issues to someone else. The installation team in Los Angeles were average at best. This company is missing high level installation crews who can take care of the upper echelon clients. Company really needs to find quality high level installers and pay them what they are worth, get a REAL Ops manager, and good things should fall in place.

Pros

Love that the owners care about people and the team environment. This team is introducing new products and strategies for security.

Cons

Being employed by a small business means you do more work than just one role - sometimes requiring multiple hats to wear.
