Selfhelp Community Services - ONLY IF DESPERATE

Pros

The only two pros to working at Selfhelp Community Services is the fact that you have income to support yourself and meeting the individuals selected for Home Health Aide training.

Cons

Unprofessional work environment. Leadership does not encourage respectable work ethics. Compensation (very low pay rate) is not in accordance with the amount of work that is done. Recruitment Department is like walking into a High School cafeteria with staff (including Management) discussing personal issues, shopping on line, and eating/conversating in the same facility as those trying to take and pass entrance assessment test. Senior Recruiter would often call applicants into her office along with other staff members to "train" on how she does things and gets away with it; manager would often humiliate applicants to the point of making them cry, her reasoning for doing this was so that she can break the applicant down and get information out of them; information which should not be asked during an interview.

Used to be a great place. Not anymore.

Pros

Good benefits and, if it were stuck to, a good mission. There's a long history of serving the vulnerable elderly. Hoping that they get back to serving them because they used to do good work.

Cons

They have become so focused on making profits that the true focus, helping clients, has been lost. For the first time I am questioning why I went into this field of work because I don't get to use my skills. I'm a vehicle for creating income (none of which employees receive). If your program is not a moneymaker for them, they turn their back on you or stab you in your back. It's become a place with a great deal of sneaking around, lying and questionable ethics. Used to be so proud to work here. Not so much anymore.

Pros

The Pros are Selfhelp provides free training for Home Health Aide Certificate ( which by law Selfhelp is surpose to give you within 10 business days after completing HHA training )

Cons

After training you receive your certificate a month or so later. This is Selfhelp way of holding u back from getting a job with another company.Selfhelp hourly wages are very low and so are the work hours given.Selfhelp does not give u a set work schedule you work if clients are available so it’s like first come first served like a temp agency.
