A Nightmare Experience: Toxic Culture and Neglectful Management

Pros

In my department, it was a saving grace that our leader pushed back against other executives pushing for multiple days in the office. However, this lone positive aspect hardly compensates for the multitude of negative experiences within the company.

Cons

Working for ServiceStream was an abysmal experience right from the beginning. I joined as a result of an acquisition, only to be greeted with a five-minute welcome where we were then left to find our own way around the office. Basic courtesy, such as showing us the location of the toilets and fire evacuation points, was entirely neglected. The culture is nothing short of reprehensible. Bad behavior is not only tolerated but rarely addressed. I've witnessed individuals protected by management despite their toxic conduct. Executive leadership even warned me about toxic people within my team, yet no action was taken to address their behavior. This workplace has proven to be the most toxic environment I've encountered throughout my career. The toxicity stems from the top, and the whole organization reeks of it. ServiceStream's online presence is a façade. Their social media team is skilled at projecting a positive image, but it couldn't be further from reality. For instance, they showcase a particular executive at a leadership program for women, while that same person is known for being abrupt and far from a "people person." The pictures online are merely a charade. It's evident that ServiceStream is aware of its tarnished reputation, but they simply don't care. Just take a look at the reviews; you'll notice that there's no response from the company. They are apathetic towards the experiences of their employees. Management at ServiceStream is negligent when it comes to people leadership. Team members often have minimal interaction with their line managers, making career progression impossible. There is a severe lack of performance feedback and opportunities for growth. Problems within the company are rarely addressed, with conflicts between team members going unresolved even when escalated to senior management. I personally experienced gaslighting and was told to change my behaviour due to a personal friendship between the problematic individual and a manager. It creates a chaotic environment and adds to the overall dysfunction. In my former department, I don't know a single person who is content in their role. They've all been mistreated in some way, resulting in disengagement, burnout, and overall misery. Compensation and benefits at ServiceStream are dismal. Salaries are low, and fair rewards are non-existent. The high turnover rate speaks for itself, with positions remaining vacant for extended periods of time.
