Pros

Some of the most talented software engineers are here, great guys, who put in their hearts. Amazing office in the heart of Budapest. There are great projects waiting in the queue, but God knows when they'll be even looked upon. The CEO is a great businessman

Cons

There are major issues happening at this company: - Knowledge: Despite making a tool for industrial designers, mechanical engineers, no one in the higher management has engineering background, no one understands what real problems/pain points are for them. - Roadmap: The roadmap isn't constant, it is constantly changing even in one quarter, as the executive team pleases. - Communication: The company is promoting a no-bs culture, however, if you don't want to be a controversial figure, you have to keep your head low and do as told. The communication from the executive side is really really bad, looks like they live in their own reality. - Office life: The company used to be a fun workplace, where people used to love to stay; now, it became a corporate graveyard. If you are planning to go there because of the 'startup vibe', please be advised, ever since the WorkPlace experience and HR manager left, there is little to no social life. - Career progression: Be advised to take any potential promotions if you are offered one: this is a one-way ticket and you cannot return, as if it turns out that you don't wish to be in that position, you better dig your own grave, as there is no way back, you'll get yourself fired. - Remote friendliness: While being one of the loudest in the tech industry in Hungary, Shapr3D fails to implement remote friendliness, trying to force the office culture on everyone, even the ones probably working better remotely. - Total control: The need to document everything and have highly redundant bureaucracy is needed to have total control over what individual contributors do. They are bound to make a confluence page of everything, have tickets in Jira for one-day works.. +1: The CEO asked everyone who didn't believe in Shapr3D to leave a while ago. He gave these persons a bigger reward for quitting then the ones staying, taken away incentives, gave no salary increase in a year of really high inflation. There are many more cons...

Pros

You work with smart people on a unique product. Above market salary in Hungary, great benefits, great coffee machine.

Cons

They want to enforce netflix startup culture which leads to burnout and simply doesn't work at a scale up, with more than 100 people. Recently a voluntary layoff was announced as the company's financials are getting worse, this was communicated very badly. You have to work net 8 hours, no home office or remote work. The CEO sometimes behaves like a kindergardner, doesn't believe in data driven decisions but only his gut feeling and his inner circle.

Pros

The work at Shapr3D is fast paced, you will not be bored here. They truly managed to put together a great team, lots of incredibly smart people here which means it is a great opportunity to learn here. The product is great and everyone wants to make an awesome product.

Cons

The management prides themselves on the company culture they created. They say that the company values feedback and sincere communication. However, in practice people don't really give feedback to each other rather they do this behind their backs. This makes it hard to discuss issues and the feedback can be distorted as it travels upper in the hierarchy. The motto is that if someone is let go it is never a surprise to them, but it has happened multiple times that they let go of people without prior warnings. They are not clear about their expectations and they do not help employees fit in to the company rather they expect them to figure it out themselves. On a day to day basis the communication culture at the company is good, engineers treat each other with respect. However, there are a few important people who are exempt from this because they are irreplaceable. This leads to unnecessary conflicts and no amount of feedback given to them changes this. On the management level the communication is insincere. They say that the company pays top in Hungary but that is simply not true (given that the requirements are stricter for sofware engineer levels, there are no benefits, etc.). Also the company internally said that they do not care about glassdoor reviews. But it turns out that they secretly asked their most loyal employees to give feedback here. You can check it, a lot of perfect reviews were given in a few weeks window.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and candid review. It’s clear that you put a lot of thought into your feedback and whilst we don’t agree with every point raised, we do appreciate you highlighting areas where your experience didn’t match the values we aim to live by. We’re glad to hear you valued the people, the pace, and the learning opportunities at Shapr3D, those are things we’re genuinely proud of. At the same time, your reflections about communication, feedback culture, and how expectations are managed are not taken lightly. We know that as a growing company, we don’t always get everything right, especially during periods of rapid change and we’re continually working to build a more transparent, consistent environment for everyone. We also want to be clear: we care about feedback from all channels, including Glassdoor and we’re committed to listening, even when it’s hard to hear. That includes reflecting on how our actions and intentions are perceived and making sure we’re holding ourselves accountable to the culture we shout about. Thanks again for being part of Shapr3D, and for helping us do better.
