Overworked, Underpaid, and not appreciated
Pros
The people you work with, for the most part, are genuine and appreciate your efforts. They will rally behind you if you lead and give praise where deserved.
Cons
Everything else. You work extremely long hours as an Assistant Manager, are expected to push your staff and yourself sometimes beyond what is capable, to the point of breaking. Expected to know things, processes and procedures, without proper training. Expected to hit marketing goals that are unrealistic. Depending on your GM, and in most cases, you just do their job so they don't have to. It's a trickle down effect in mentality. GM's get it from Corporate. Corporate feels they have put in their time, so they forget how to "Lead by Example". And to top it off, there is no real appreciation. What Corporate is really doing is just lining their pockets and running good honest people into the ground.
