I had high hopes when I accepted a position at Shaw University, as I was told that the institution was on the rise and in the process of building a stronger department. Unfortunately, that was far from the truth. In reality, Shaw University has been in decline.
Just three months into my tenure, the entire staff received a 10% salary cut as part of an effort to balance the budget. The following year, several faculty members were laid off to make ends meet, leaving those who remained to take on multiple roles without any additional compensation. This has led to an overwhelming workload and a noticeable decline in morale.
Key cons include a toxic work environment, lack of organization, and poor communication across departments. The high turnover rate has resulted in a chaotic atmosphere where it often feels like the blind leading the blind, causing confusion and frustration for everyone involved.
Overall, my experience at Shaw University has been extremely disappointing, and I would caution others to think carefully before joining this institution.
