Pros

It was ok while it lasted. My supervisor (now retired) was a good person and a good boss, and I got along with most my co workers. First impressions when hired were mostly positive. Some staff was extremely welcoming and kind, others not so much. (I believe I left in 2016, website wouldn't let me select anything before 2018)

Cons

I can only speak for the IT department. We had very limited resources and systems. User passwords and inventory were on an excel spreadsheet. After a few months I noticed how much gossip and office politics went on everyday. It was toxic and unpleasant. I was let go without warning (no written or verbal) as my contract stated that I needed and this was just before bonus pay that I never received. I am still not really sure what happened. The pay is horrible, and I met a lot of condescending people in upper management. Boardroom meetings were pointless, people talked about ideas that never got accomplished. I feel bad for some of the IT people if they still work there. I feel they can all do better. Being let go from this place was a blessing in disguise for me and many years later I am writing this hoping the place has improved. Overall a superficial place with a lot of immature people running it.

DOING IT RIGHT

Pros

Company culture. Working for a large and diversified family run business is wonderful. Decisions are made and implemented in 1/2 the time a large corporate company does. They have actively been working on employee appreciation that goes outside of office and office hours, that is inclusive of family and friends. So when I bring guest to an event they can’t believe that the company is putting it on.

Cons

If you are looking to grow fast in your career this might be a challenge as opportunities don’t open up as often.

Unsafe staffing & so many bullies

Pros

The residents are amazing, the building itself is nice, like a 5 star hotel.

Cons

The pay, everyone is making around minimum wage, including the nursing staff. Lot's of favoritism. Seniority doesn't mean anything. You can be part time for 5 yrs, and they will hire someone new for the full time positions. Management doesn't do anything about the staff bullying. Unsafe staffing, usually just 1 psw scheduled for 100+ residents. Toxic work environment. At least half of the residents should be in LTC, but as long as Sifton can make money on them they can stay. Ageism. They only hire students, and first year graduates, so they can take advantage of them. Once you hit 40, they bully you into quitting
