Pros

I should say It was very uncomfortable to read some reviews about Sigma Beauty. It was hard to acknowledge that someone could write something like that. Sigma treats every person, every employee as a family member. I’ve seen people coming and smiling every day in your face and when a hard change comes, they write something very unprofessional. It is simply impossible to justify those actions, especially in a family like environment… We did lose some people, but I should compare it to a fast-moving race car, when you take rough corners, you lose some tread on your tires. It is truly sad to see someone go, but both parties need to consider, that it is for the better and both have opportunities for something new and exciting. If you are honest, hardworking, and not afraid to gain a ton of new knowledge and experience, Sigma will be the right place for you. I should say Sigma is all about its employees. Sigma wants to see people succeed, I personally was sent to trainings and gained a lot of experience. I can say that people are constantly evolving at Sigma. We love to share knowledge here, as it is the only potential to be successful for all of us. At Sigma you can try a variety of jobs, thus you won’t feel bored. Lastly, Sigma is a place of a great opportunities, there is a potential to grow, and believe me, if you are good at what you do, you will be recognized and valued, I truly believe that it is the proper approach to motivate people and help them become smarter. The office Atmosphere is super friendly, we always have events that help us to abstract from the daily routine and relax, play, chat and share our thoughts, I truly love it. Regarding the owners, they are great people. Every time I had a question, suggestion or concern, I was able to talk to them and express myself. What I learned at Sigma is: you don’t need to be afraid to talk to Rene and Simone, they love to listen, and they love to help, again it is both parties that they want to benefit. I know for a fact that they trust people as they shared a lot of personal things with us, such as emotions and their feeling, I trust them! I’ve read that some people are uncomfortable with them, while they are in the office, I have never experienced that, as long as you do your work properly and you love what you do, you will be in good shape. I should compare it to a college, you can’t study the night before an exam, you either do it properly the whole time and become a successful professional, or you fail. Rene and Simone are motivators, they help us find the right way to become successful, and help Sigma evolve, I listened to many of Rene’s motivational talks and I should say, they are very smart, and he knows where he wants Sigma to be, believe me it is hard to come by a person in the 21st century that knows how to properly operate a fast-growing business. Lastly, I want to say that Rene and Simone are very true and sincere people, that strive very hard daily, to keep up with latest beauty industry updates and lead Sigma Beauty to success.

Cons

It would be great if we could be more opened about upcoming promotions and new ideas internally, so people can have enough time to prepare and accommodate. Would be great if people could have a bit more flexibility on hours and can have an option to work from home if needed. Possibly to re-work a PTO policy to allow people gain it in an easier way and use it towards real vacation.

Pros

Free beauty products. Reasonable work hours. Lasting friendships.

Cons

Everything started out pleasant. Sales were steady, the team was strong and the owners were happy. The company had energy and momentum and the job looked promising. But, things took a turn for the worst when the owners decided to move to Florida (HQ is located in MN). They became suspicious, paranoid, and untrusting of their employees. The physical distance created a gaping hole between the tightly bonded, well-meaning employees at the office and them. They had cameras installed throughout the building to watch employees and attempt to measure their effectiveness from afar. It’s an extremely creepy feeling to know you’re being watched on camera all day. Things started to spiral out of control as the owners realized they wouldn’t be able to control every minuscule happening from across the country. So, they lashed out through hostile emails, hid behind their computers, and instructed managers to clean up their neverending pile of messes. Their visits to the office were diasters. Employees were often left in tears while managers and directors spent the following weeks doing damage control. While the CEO acts like a dictator, the woman owner’s interest in the company ebbs and flows between avoiding the office for months then demanding to involved in every decision. The one thing that remained consistent was their lack of respect and human decency for those paying their bills. The male CEO continuously found himself in hot water. His comments, emails, and jokes were regularly inappropriate. We’re talking about sexist, misogynistic, and demeaning conduct. How can you claim to be a “genius” but be callous enough to repeatedly make these types of comments? How can you work in an office with 90% women and think that’s ok? He can only blame it on the fact that he’s Brazilian and things are “lost in translation” for so long. When I confronted the owners directly about the inappropriate conduct, I was quickly told I was causing trouble for the company and my position was threatened. I watched the owners groom people, mostly young women, into dutiful employees. It’s not a coincidence that he hires mostly women, it’s done with the intention of control. The male employees in the office were definitely treated differently. At one point the owners said they would have rather employ robots to execute their orders instead of humans who have their own thoughts. I’m not kidding. Employees had no autonomy and weren’t allowed to implement even the smallest of ideas without their approval. We had intelligent employees with prior careers, degrees, and life experiences who we repeatedly told they had no idea what they were doing. The arrogance was truly astounding. Being a successful car salesman (more like a snake oil salesman) doesn’t make you a successful CEO. No one has all the answers, and asking for help makes you smart, not weak. Listening to other’s opinions allows you to grow, learn and do better. Isn’t that the point of having employees? Changing the name of this Glassdoor account and purposefully creating a fake bio is a new low (who knew that was possible?!). Does this mean that they are embarrassed by the way past employees feel about their experience at the company? If so, changing their actions instead of the name on the account would be an appropriate response. Yet, what we’re left with is another web of lies.

Hello, As addressed in the previous review, you would be quite pleased to know that we are actively hiring for important leadership positions within Sigma. We have successfully brought in excellent team members with great experience and we already see huge improvements in our performance. Additionally, with the goal to fully professionalizing the company, we have partnered with a number of third party companies which are providing excellent guidance, especially to our marketing department. Our goal is to continue to work with the absolute best services that are available. This is part of our long term goal - to bring in experienced professionals who are fully equipped to manage the great partners we have plugged into our company. Additionally, we are working with one of the best HR consulting firms available to completely revamp our HR management, documents, and policies. Again, with the aim to professionalize the company to the max, we are heavily investing in the best management and support we can offer to our employees, and we are looking forward to exploring an exciting new phase for our company. Many of these changes have already resulted in significant improvement in efficiency and growth in sales YOY. Thank you for your feedback and we can’t wait for everyone to witness the results of these changes.

Pros

Nada AKA- free crappy products A handful of the employees are good people

Cons

Sigma Beauty is an awful company to work for. The owners (a husband and wife duo who barely have a grasp of the English language) are inappropriate and abusive in their dealings with even their best employees. They value money and money alone. No one in the entire company has ANY prior beauty industry experience in product development or marketing. They finally hired one person who had a background and history working in everything from product development to PR for a few of the most reputable and successful brands in the world only to fire her within a years time because she refused to tell them that they were on the right path and kowtow to them. I knew after that, that Sigma Beauty was a sinking ship, so I left!
