No opportunity for growth

Pros

Good benefits. Pay is good, health care is the standard in the work place. Employees pay 1/3 of the cost. Matching retirement contributions.

Cons

Nepotism is the order of the day. Study closely and you will amazed at the number of employees that are related. Also note, if you can, the number of high quality employees that have been dismissed because they questioned the way things were being done, or didn't bow to the queen bee.

Pros

Free food regularly. That’s all I can think of.

Cons

Unfair compensation unless you threaten to leave. No work life balance. Public shame and private praise. Toxic work environment. Manipulative management. Empty promises. Either buy in to their lies or get out - or they’ll make you get out. Managers celebrate getting people fired. No appreciation for the 13 hour days - it’s just expected.

Pros

It's extremely commendable and somewhat unbelievable how this company was able to navigate through the housing downturn and come back stronger than they were prior to the downturn. I respect their ability to remain profitable and grow in such a volatile market. Also, this company does give the buyer a good final product and if I were to buy a new home, this company would definitely be top on my list. Their homes do not need to be on the same list in comparison as other production home builders. They do exceed their competition's quality/value. This company has good builders and good people working hard for them.

Cons

There are a lot of negatives with this company. I'll touch on a couple. The main negative with this company is that the organizational chart is constantly changing due to high turnover that is a result of one of the owners having new ideas on how to run/change the company direction. These ideas seem to pop in his head overnight or due to the latest book he has just read. Another issue is that he hires/fires and likes/dislikes based on whatever mood he is in or who wasn't able to read his mind on how to put his new idea/plan into action. This creates extreme instability for your employees and thus far employees have had to stick it out due to this company being the only company in town surviving the building downturn. I could go on and on. The other reviews are very true in that the majority of the employees that work here and that have secure jobs here are either related to one of the owners or is friends with one of the owner's family in some manner. You're, however, going to have this occur when smaller companies grow over time, such as this one, and become larger. Due to the fact that when you're an owner and starting your own business you're going to hire people you trust and know. It does, however, become an HR nightmare when the machine becomes as large as this one has.
