Dedicated Staff but Unstructured Environment & Low Pay

Pros

SimplePractice creates a great product that helps a lot of people. The employees are very enthusiastic and dedicated to their work. Flexible hours and work from home.

Cons

As to be expected in any start-up, SimplePractice is a chaotic place to work. Priorities are constantly shifting and you need to be really good at handling multiple projects at once. Yet, I can't help but think this start-up is far more hectic than most. You never know day-to-day which projects will be the priority. To make things worse, the CEO acts like someone with ADD and is continually changing his mind on which projects are high priority, creating an overall stressful and exhausting work environment. The CEO treats his staff in an equally unstable and unpredidctable manner -- some days you're his favorite person in the world but then the next, for seemingly no reason, you're suddenly the most despised human left on earth. There's zero staff development here. If you make a mistake, you're more likely to be fired rather than helped and guided so you figure it out. Meanwhile, if you're not one of the favored ones, expect to be spoken badly of behind your back. The company also has a history of making rash and unsound decisions that can be a huge waste or resources -- while employee wages are pitiful at best, and nowhere near the going market rates. I'm sure a lot of this is typical for a tech start-up, but still, it's a generally unpleasant and miserable place to work. Unless you have a very thick skin and don't mind low pay and being unappreciated, don't work here.

Not bad, not great

Pros

The people who are hired are likeminded, kind (for the most part), passionate about the work, and driven. The training process really set me up well to be successful early in my position.

Cons

Things have really gone downhill, especially in the last year or so. The reviews on here are probably from team members still in the honeymoon period of their employment. The plans for returning back to the office have been very poorly communicated and the management group has been really defensive when we've asked. They say that they pay us very well at the top of the market, but it isn't the case. I have several friends in similar positions at different companies that make the same or more than me. Team members have been fired pretty regularly which makes it hard for me to know where I stand even though I have asked this question to my manager regularly. Radical candor is preached, but we can't really do it because then you have a target on your back. Anonymous surveys are really the only way people feel comfortable being honest.

Pros

- You can get away with doing bare minimum work (kind of a pro and con) - Generally, some management is nice - Yearly bonus opportunities

Cons

-Once a place to grow professionally and be coached, it is now a snakey environment where people put each other down behind their backs -Employees can do the bare minimum and get away with it, even though they "look for A players" -Horrible management. Not transparent. - Low pay. They expect employees to fight and fight for raises on their own. - they now look for people based on going to ivy league schools over experience or personality

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We value team member feedback and believe in the importance of candor, even when it may lead to difficult conversations. We're sorry that your experience is not more positive and would like to learn more about your perspective. As a current team member, we encourage you to reach out to your manager, group lead, or HR so we could more fully understand your concerns, and hopefully, work together to make things better.
