not what it was made out to be

Pros

- fair pay - a few nice colleagues, those that were intelligent, talented and driven stood out - pleasant exit interview

Cons

- 5+ interviews, all of which oversold the job / promised development / support / progression, none of which came to fruition - huge exodus of staff upon joining (again, not mentioned at all during interview process). Felt like they were hiring and firing week on week - extremely gossipy culture, with clear favourites - bad handling of remote working / pandemic - no sense of wanting to help new joiners, just throwing them in and seeing if they sink or swim - long hours - managers who didn't care about their reports - clear animosity between colleagues with lots of talking behind each others backs - no clear boundary between founder & rest of the business - no desire to support when concerns were raised

We are working hard to build a healthy and positive culture and are glad to hear you have noted the value of our committed and dedicated colleagues, as well as our salary positioning. That is helpful feedback for us. We are sorry that, upon reflection, you feel that your time with us was not as good as you might have wished. In your review, you mention you had a nice exit interview. We are always happy to have follow-up conversations with our alumni, so should you wish to elaborate, please feel free to reach out to HR. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and we wish you well in your next role.

A very mixed bag

Pros

Excellent exposure to business leaders, big name private equity clients and high profile PE deals. The company is well regarded amongst its clients and has a very positive rep from the outside. Colleagues are smart and driven people. The work is intellectually stimulating if somewhat repetitive

Cons

Oppressive culture leading to burnout and high turnover, particularly among juniors. Salaries are way out of line with what is expected of associates. There is an ingrained culture of face time (a typical week is 55-60 hours, even when quiet). A lot of time is spent on non revenue generating activities which can be highly frustrating. The firm markets itself as a specialist off market originator and advisor to PE but in reality it is just a recruitment firm (albeit at the more interesting end of the spectrum).

Cliquey with obvious favoritism

Pros

Good benefits (company has lots of money) Yearly bonuses and pay-rises Good and consistent social events and staff rewards Provides training

Cons

SUPER hierarchical Very cliquey and if you don't fit in with the clique then you can feel very excluded, erring on the side of bullying culture Extreme corporate culture Micromanaging and nitpicking HR have obvious favourites and so going to them with a problem doesn't feel safe or secure Gossiping Promise of progression but actually only those who are popular among the team get promoted
