Pros

Great people to work with overall Product that has the potential to innovate an industry if done the right way

Cons

No accountability at Skupos - Mistakes are constantly made or critical information isn't communicated to the teams that need it. Then no one actually takes any responsibility afterwards. Being a “product lead company” where those teams demand involvement in every initiative they can, but are incapable of efficiently working with others or meeting deadlines consistently. 1. This causes many downstream effects on the customers and our partners. Teams focus more on the performance of other teams besides their own. They constantly question processes, decisions, and ask it to be justified with additional data/examples that eats up the time to do your actual job. A lack of leadership is prevalent in Skupos. People are hired for their success in an area, not because they know how to lead people. Investing in leadership is something Skupos has done once, and managers couldn't participate because they couldn't afford pull off from their day-to-day work. Career opportunities are nonexistent: 1. Job expectations change weekly with the excuse of Skupos being a "fast-paced" startup to justify it. 2. Positions have been removed after someone has accepted it (internal promotions specifically). 3. Leadership expects employees to work roles above theirs without promotions or changes to position. 4. Would rather outsource a position, than promote or backfill roles. Leadership continues to incentivize/call Skupos CUSTOMERS to ask them to use the Skupos platform that THEY PAY FOR. Most of the company has minimal understanding of how the product actually works, or what it takes to make it successful. 1. Products/programs are built without the customer in mind. 2. Feedback from field teams isn't considered in product planning. Bandaid solutions for problems - not scalable approaches. 1. Would rather throw another offshore team at a problem, then attempt to actually fix what’s causing it. 2. Everyone can understand trying to save money as a business, but not at the cost of the mental health of your employees. Skupos DOES NOT backfill roles and expects the employees who stay to take on that burden, usually as a “growth/learning opportunity”.

Pros

Pay, benefits for a small company Lots of lip service for progressive issues

Cons

No leadership. Lots of thrash and rearrangement. People regularly throwing others under the bus. Nepotism and face-saving are valued over performance and accountability. Your career will not advance here. No one gets promoted, far more likely to get fired or "coached out". No one gets experience, just pressured to do work that has nothing to do with their skillset ("put your jazzhands in!"). Everything is in panic mode with never-fulfilled promises about infrastructure/process later.

We appreciate your perspective. The reality is that Skupos is a hyper-growth startup serving a two-sided market. As we onboard more customers, it is our responsibility to rapidly adapt our products and services to reach true product market fit. We recognize that this creates change in product vision and strategy that sometimes results in work that is outside of a core skill set we may have originally hired for. It also creates opportunity for those that are passionate about the company and eager to learn. We have seen product managers step into Director roles and excel, and others that have not aligned to our journey. Unfortunately, we do have to make hard decisions as it applies to these most critical roles. We appreciate your time with us, and wish you the best in your career. Posted on behalf of CTO

Pros

- Used to have strong user growth - Had a cool office - Good early fundraising

Cons

- Product doesn't work well and creates constant support headaches. - Lack of market demand for what Skupos provides. - Sales tactics are all high pressure; scare retailers into thinking they are losing money, rather than listening to what the customer actually needs. - Unsustainable commission practices. - Lack of training and process. - The layoff early on during COVID was to narrow the focus to retail (cut workforce from enterprise) while the next round of layoffs in November were to cut the workforce from retail to increase focus back to enterprise. - Leaders and team members don't know how to properly use their CRM, Salesforce. - Company can't survive with their current cash flow. - Sinking ship.

Thank you for the feedback and I apologize for any frustration you may have experienced. We built Skupos to help small retailers compete against the larger chains, and that ethos is built into everything that we do. I care deeply about the success of the 14k+ retailers on our platform and will personally review our training materials and sales practices in order to ensure that our customer-first approach continues to shine through. Furthermore, we are proud to have an investor group that shares our long-term vision for harnessing the power of data in the independent convenience store market, and I truly believe that we are just getting started. That said, I understand that selling in a highly transactional start-up environment may not be a fit for everyone. We appreciate your dedication while you were here and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!
