Pros

Skydio has an amazing AI drone, hitting on parts of the market unseen by others. The Engineering and Product teams comprise of really smart and talented people. There's a lot of opportunity to learn about robotics and AI, and a lot of opportunity to build the organization.

Cons

Extremely terrible work/life balance. While discussing the topic of burn out, the team was encouraged to "keep going and do what you do because there is a lot to do" without a show of care for employee mental health or life outside of work. Managers and their direct reports discuss nothing but work amongst each other, and the concept of caring for the people is non-existent. It's amazing how long many have worked together and still hardly know a thing about each other. Resources are lacking. It's surprising Skydio has made it this far without a basic order operations organization, or much to focus on organization in general. A lot of reports are still put into google sheets, and additional workload is continued to be added without putting capacity into consideration. Post-sales teams are struggling the most here as focus has been heavily on revenue and not on after sales resources. There's an expectation for salaried workers to do 50-60 hour weeks, while non-salaried teams struggle in burn out through normal working hours and are consistently requested to work overtime. There are a lot of unnecessary meetings during working hours that contribute to the lack of work/life balance as it does not give proper time outside of the work day to actually complete tasks. A good portion of these meetings can be done over slack or email to ensure next steps are documented rather than discussed and forgotten. Skydio lacks completely with employee resource groups. With a small attempt to show women support once, diversity and support for it is completely forgotten and pushed aside. It's clear that it's not top of mind to make sure employees are comfortable and have the resources and groups to turn to when needed. Career growth is also not top of mind when working with certain leaders. They do not invest in their employee growth or discuss where/what their employees would eventually want to work towards. Support for employee growth through shadowing and projects or any type of personal development is lacking.

Pros

- High-caliper hardware and software engineering, on really cutting-edge products - Most of the people on the ground-level (IC's) are really talented individuals with great collaborative interactions and culture to get things done - Competitive compensation for a start-up, and the People Ops team does an awesome job of valuing employees, sending out swag and appreciation packages throughout the year. - Annual company shutdown for a week is really nice to give everyone a break outside of the regular holiday seasons without using your PTO

Cons

- It used to be the case that people in Skydio did not have egos, but that has changed in recent years as the company has sized-up. Some of the new senior leadership is pretty disrespectful, in spite of not adding much value to development. Additionally, there is a lot of favoritism for folks who have longer tenure, even if their skill sets are weaker than others'. - There are many issues with diversity and inclusiveness. Several talented individuals have left because of this. Regarding hiring processes, culturally and gender insensitive comments and biases go unaddressed. Individuals who bring up conversations around alternative ways of thought are gaslighted and looked down upon for initiating the topics. Despite many cries to address this, senior management often brushes these things under the rug. - While most people get excited about the consumer drone, the main focus of the company has shifted away from that. Skydio is now largely a B2B enterprise drone company, with some of the most important customers being military and police, and culturally-sensitive conversations around working with these types of customers are often kept hush-hush.
