Too bad company being mismanaged

Pros

Product stability & good name

Cons

Executive leadership team made up of very inexperienced, unmotivated, non-successful people who might look good on paper...who hire inexperienced people who will not threaten their status and talk a good game. No leadership, blame mentality and finger pointing, inaction, and no passion to drive the business into the future. Love to keep status quo, but talk a great game and like to pat backs of cronies about positive changes/direction that are not really happening.

Former Leader Becoming A Laggard

Pros

Family owned firm. The owners care about their employees, with numerous small perks (Free Turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas), bonus, 4th of July party, etc. Not a bad place to work, however at the end of the day, it is a place to work.

Cons

Skytron like many family owned firms is incredibly political. Although we are all part of the Skytron "Family" some of us are more family than others. Managment style is stuck in the 1970's and 1980's. Although there is talk of improvement, wheels are simply spinning. Lack of best practices and awareness of market dynamics is not only slowing growth, but leaving company in the dust. You are hired into a job, and you will remain in that job for the long haul. Lots of promising younger employees are finding jobs outside now that the economy is improving, leaving a lack of depth in the bench. Other employees that challenge the status quo and try to improve things are shown the door.

Pros

There are a lot of good people that work at Skytron. The environment is fairly relaxed. There are a handful of small perks (gym access, holiday parties, year end bonus). The health care was excellent during my employment.

Cons

The compensation is woefully inadequate. Ownership/Management knows this, they have not responded appropriately. The message has always been that receiving a year end bonus and the health care make up for it but in my opinion the bonus and the health care do not balance the scale. There is a lot of communication regarding change and improvement however there is very little follow through. There is a lack of accountability throughout the building. Employees who work hard are occasionally rewarded with meager pay increases or title changes but are over worked in the process. A portion of upper management is often unprofessional when dealing with personnel matters.
