If you're considering joining Slickdeals, I urge you to tread carefully. The once-promising company is now a sinking ship, primarily due to its new C-level leadership. Since their arrival, it's been a downward spiral with no end in sight. Let's start with the leadership. Incompetent is an understatement. They lack the basic skill sets required for their roles and seem utterly clueless about how to steer the company towards success. Shockingly, their tenure hasn't yielded any positive changes; no improvements in company culture, performance, or even basic employee retention strategies. Instead, they've resorted to a dubious tactic of hiring acquaintances and probably showering them with exorbitant salaries, titles, and equity, despite their lack of experience. This move undermines the morale of long-term employees.. The CEO is particularly concerning. Over a year in his role, and what has he accomplished? Nothing substantial. Instead, he plays the blame game, conveniently pointing fingers at prior leadership for the company's woes while turning a blind eye to his own shortcomings. His recent decisions, like opening a new office and coercing employees back into the physical workspace, reek of desperation rather than strategic foresight. It's evident that he's misleading investors and the entire workforce, fueling the company's downward spiral. The casualties of this leadership debacle are plentiful. Talented individuals are being forced out, leaving behind a toxic work environment and eroding any hope of a turnaround. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Slickdeals becomes a cautionary tale of mismanagement and downfall in the next five years. In conclusion, unless you enjoy being aboard a sinking ship with clueless captains at the helm, steer clear of Slickdeals. Your career and sanity deserve better.

Pros

No pros, the past year has nosedived.

Cons

Declining Work/Life Balance: The work/life balance and overall culture have deteriorated over the past year. Upper management's attempts to enforce a new culture haven't been well-received, and concerns or constructive feedback often go unaddressed. San Mateo Office Focus: There's a heavy emphasis on the San Mateo office, leading to an unspoken understanding to operate like a frugal startup while simultaneously investing in costly new initiatives. Return to Office Challenges: The mandatory Return to Office policy is poorly executed, with inconsistent enforcement and numerous exceptions, leading to confusion and frustration especially when there are 3 offices and numerous remote staff. Just allow everyone to be remote if they wish or have a single collaboration day per week where everyone visits the offices. Excessive Bureaucracy: Despite being likened to a startup, the company is burdened with excessive red tape, making it feel more like a large corporate entity simultaneously. New Slack Policy: The recent changes to the Slack policy have hindered open communication, negatively impacting team collaboration and discussion. Stagnant Career Growth: There's a noticeable lack of title changes and minimal salary increases within the technology department, even after layoffs and meeting directive support initiatives. There is also a ceiling to career progression. Off-Hours Reading: Ambiguous reading requirements are implied to be completed during personal time to support the culture, adding to employees' workloads. Communication Issues: Poor communication between teams, from upper management, and among management levels leads to frustration and delays in project delivery. Uneven Accountability: Individual contributors face severe consequences for poor communication, while managers do not experience the same level of accountability, creating a sense of unfairness.

Complete Downward Spiral Under New Leadership

Pros

Been looking for the last two years....

Cons

Working at Slickdeals has been an absolute disappointment, especially since the new CEO and C-level team took over about a year and a half ago. The company has been in a constant downward spiral ever since, with month after month of losses. What’s truly frustrating is that the leadership refuses to acknowledge the real problem: a drastic lack of users. The company continues to blame things that are out of anyone's control, especially the employees who are just trying to do their jobs. The reality is, that until they address the core issue, it feels like we're all just treading water. Bonuses have been shrinking every quarter, and it’s only a matter of time before they’re completely nonexistent. This is especially disheartening because the bonuses are tied to company performance, which, let's face it, is entirely out of the hands of individual employees who are doing their best to keep things afloat. If this trend continues, don’t be surprised if half the sales team walks out. No one wants to stick around for a sinking ship with no rewards for hard work. Another major issue is the influx of people from big-name companies like Google who haven’t contributed anything meaningful to the company’s success. These hires seem to be mostly VP’s and SVP’s, all filling up the organization with no real results to show for it. The company is bloated with wasteful spending on executive-level salaries and perks that could be better invested elsewhere. The higher-ups are living in a bubble, disconnected from the reality of what’s happening at the ground level. To top it off, they recently brought back the old CEO for the 25th anniversary to talk about how successful the company used to be. If they want to salvage what’s left of Slickdeals, they should consider bringing him back permanently to steer this sinking ship away from disaster. Overall, Slickdeals used to be a great place to work, but the new leadership has completely wrecked the culture and the business. The constant mismanagement, lack of accountability, and diminishing rewards make it clear that things aren’t going to get better anytime soon. If you're considering joining, think twice.
