Pros

Some good people working there together like a prison camp!

Cons

Management pretend they care about you, but they don't. Micromanagement, got reprimanded for speaking in Spanish. Old country club with nasty accountants. Don't work here, unless is your last resort.

Pros

Smolin has some great benefits and perks, work from home policy, dress for the day policy and Summer Fridays! If you're a hard worker and willing to put in the time and make up billable hours, flexibility is permitted accordingly.

Cons

Depending on the Partner you work under decides your fate with the firm. You can either work under someone extremely progressive, open to new ideas and willing to dedicate their time to have you shadow them at clients and alongside prospect opportunities gaining you the experience and knowledge you need to excel, or you're stuck with a stodgy old guy/gal who'd rather see you grind until you quit or perhaps they'll make things easy for themselves and terminate you before you even get the chance to cry "uncle". The Firm has a vision and goal of where they'd like to be in the next 5-10 years, but there is no accountability in regards to action steps. Once tax season hits all external efforts fall short. Important organizational departments are unapproachable and lack confidentiality.

Pros

They bring in dinner during tax season and breakfast on Saturday mornings. Also, they are paperless for the most part .

Cons

Very negative environment. Employees are treated like children, instead of like the professionals that they are. Management and admin are quick to cast blame on others. Work is very scarce after April 15, and what little there is seems to go to the same few people, instead of being spread around. Turnover is very high. A lot of people are let go after tax season. A few get other jobs and leave on their own. They delay paying tax season bonuses until very late in the year. By that time many are gone and don't get the pay they deserve for all the overtime they worked. I don't know about other's salaries, but my base salary was average. I was told at my interview that there would be a tax season bonus, but that never materialized. Very disappointing. They seem to hire a lot of inexperienced young people, but based on the amount of them that are let go, training does not appear to be adequate. My advice is to look elsewhere as there are plenty of firms looking for good people.
