Pros

Honestly, I worked there for 2 years, and I'm actually having a hard time to pin point any pros about this company. May be the bright purple decor?

Cons

Working here has taught me a lot about my potentials - and most importantly, it taught me the feeling of drinking poison willingly. *The entire startup culture vibe that they try to show to the outside world, couldn't be less true and SO FAKE that its nauseous. *Everything about this place revolves around developers, from pay to treatment -everything. *It's a super depressing place to work at, if being unhappy is on your list, then this is definitely your place (although I'll ask, why would you?) *Deadly quiet - You can actually hear the clock ticking - its SO SO quiet. They actually bring in neighbors and relatives on special days to make it look crowded. *They constantly talk about breaking silos, tries to make company events and instill startup vibes, but the entire structure to the core operates like that of a corporate and hence fails to achieve any of startup culture at all. *Personally, I felt like, my job description did not at all reflect with what I was actually entitled to do, and it seemed like quite a normal thing here where you are expected to accept something like this and act like this is how its supposed to be. *I was scared of my supervisor, and scared isn't a feeling I was accustomed of before working here and I'm glad I left, because nothing's worth that feeling of being miserable every single day, where everything is so fake.

I don't think anything could disappoint me more than to read a review of Smooch like yours. How we could have failed you so much, never known about your dissatisfaction and unhappiness, and for this to have lasted for 2 years is devastating and my deepest apologies go out to you. I respect and agree with virtually all of the management principles you shared under Advice to Management, but also feel we practice most of these reasonably well today - although clearly not in your situation, for which I apologize, and I also know there is plenty of room for improvement. I will never dispute your personal experience, but I must also say that I don't believe your experience is representative of Smooch as a whole. We are 45 people today (up from 25 a year ago), ~half of whom are developers and other engineers. Our average tenure is 18-months (over a 37-month history), and if we only look at our 2016 & 2017 employee cohorts our average tenure is 2.5 years (again within a 3-year history). I wish you only greater happiness and satisfaction in your next venture!

Pros

Great place to work if you're looking to join a growing team. They're hiring non-stop, expanding the office, and are in a booming industry.

Cons

Growth is fast, so the company is looking for self-starters who are comfortable with evolving roles & ambiguity.

Pros

Office decor is nice. Company lunch every two weeks. Healthcare

Cons

Super quiet office almost like a graveyard. It's a very social and awkward group. If you are a developer I'm sure you will like it here as you will get your butt kissed. If you aren't a developer prepare to be unappreciated and expect a low salary. Very cliquey herd of devs. If you are lucky and meet a dev in the office that chose to not work remote that day, approach slowly as you may scare them off, attempt a smile to show that you are friendly and say "Hello". They may respond back. If you are lucky it might turn to a conversation about weather. There is a complaint about work silos but everyone still socializes within their department and rarely outside of that.

I never like to learn that a member of the team didn't feel comfortable or feel like they fit within our culture, and so am disappointed and sorry to learn about your experience. I do appreciate getting the feedback though, so thank you for sharing.
