Pros
+The sole reason that I gave Smuggs a 4-star review was because it was an EXCELLENT resume builder. I have never gotten more work experience from any job in my life. Fresh out of college, and after only just the summer season at the Notch my work ethic had been turned into a solid brick. Long story short - the best thing about this job was that it got me better jobs down the road. It didn't seem right to give a bad rating to a place that has been crucial to my success. +You will make great friends immediately, and you always have something to talk about because of the brutality of the desk. +Some of the guests can be pretty cool. +At least at the GSD all of my coworkers were wonderful and that includes supervisors, assistant manager, and manager. Every person there went above and beyond the call of duty many many times. Kudo's to you all and I hope you are all still in good health. Also, I hope you still find the pictures of Shrek and Tom Cruise I hid throughout the office, and behind the front desk. ;)
Cons
Now, here is the good part: -Smugglers Notch Resort does a good job at painting a beautiful facade over a disintegrating core. As far as I could see - this is by no means the fault of anybody in any department. This comes entirely from the fact that Smuggs publicly went bankrupt a few years back and was eaten by one of the worlds largest hotel conglomerates - Wyndham. Now instead of just being a home-grown Vermont resort/hotel, it is a strategic land-grab against Wyndhams corporate competitor on the other side of the mountain - AIG. Either way the business model is a mess. -Check-ins that should have taken 5 minutes would actually take 10-15 because the computer system would crash 30% of the time (not an exaggeration). This had to be explained with the typical "our computers are running slow today" lie. Often during the summer we would have 300-450 check-ins on top of all of our other tasks with 4 or 5 agents manning the desk. Do the math. It was Brutal. -There were A LOT of other tasks. Cards, Welcome Packets, VIP guests, Activity Planning, answering calls of all sorts, making reservations, etc. the list goes on and on. If you work the evening shift - prepare to have one of the most instense jobs of your entire life. Morning shift is extremely easy in comparison, so I would shoot for that. -Many of the condos are owned by people who got grifted into buying one by the salesforce. And because it really isn't the best deal they almost always try to cut their losses and rent them out, they are then put into the pool alongside the resort owned condos. Unfortunately most of these owner owned condos are disgusting and not kept well, leading to the con below. -Some guests are absolutely terrifying, and when they have a problem (like a mouse infested owner owned condo) you get to deal with them face-to-face. -Don't even pretend to expect fair pay for the amount of work you do. You will not be paid well. If you want money go work at Stowe Mountain or one of the hotels on the other side of the mountain.
