Pros
Excellent facilities in some buildings. Most colleagues. Solent Voice/UCU support.
Cons
Too many academics being made redundant leading to increased seminar group sizes and less individual for support students. Less time to research/update teaching content, so inevitably leading to lower standards. Unrewarding environment. Brutal HR management, unable to deal with (and sometimes even to acknowledge) bullying which has led to some catastrophic consequences. Promotions are often political rather than on merit. Academic workload planning system is unrealistic and designed not to acknowledge much of the work that needs to be carried out as part of the role if you care about your students’ university experience and outcome.
