Terrible working hours.
Management were the only team members allowed to put transactions through the till, which meant that the manger on shift was not allowed to leave the building at all.
I was lied to at my initial interview for the job regarding the shop closing down in the future, the area Manager was well aware of this happening and lied to me.
The area Manager (David) called me on the week of Christmas and told me that I had to inform all colleagues that they were given their 1 weeks notice and will no longer have a job, as the store was due to close indefinitely. This most definitely was not my responsibility, but was forced to do this. This was an awful and unfair situation to be put in.
After the store closed, I was transferred to another store who quite clearly didn't need me there.
I could sense that I was being pushed out by Management which made me extremely anxious and caused depression.
I was then accused of making a stock transfer mistake, that they claimed was gross misconduct.
I did not make this mistake, as I never completed a stock transfer. It was a complete lie from the store manager and area Manager.
During the meeting with the area Manager (David) he then mocked my depression by saying that "there's no body there is there?". Once the meeting had concluded I was then held back by staff whilst they searched my bags and treated like a criminal.
This employment was 12 years ago and I've gone onto have a successful career, thankfully.
I wish that I'd spoken out at the time but I think that it's important to share these types of experiences and for employees to know that they are protected by law if they were to receive the same treatment.
