The Emancipation of the Common Solo Employee

Pros

While the pros are few and far between and hard to recognize many times... Solo's benefits package is far and away better than most. The new building that Solo is currently leasing is an enormous improvement from the drab dark dungeon once held in Highland Park.

Cons

The cons on the other hand take only but seconds to see as you walk through the Solo corridors. The soulless stares of consultants that strut about the building as if they own the place that are making our everyday business calls are silencing. Employees work out of fear rather than loyalty or pride. If you work hours on end or the bare minimum, it is not recognized. So I ask you why kill yourself for a company that is not willing to look out for you in return. Most of the EMT are witless incompetent fools who put on a great front, but we all know the deep dark secret that they are just setting the company up to be sold. Once a great company to work for, Solo has become a word of disgust and remorse. I would venture to say that not 5% of the employees would recommend this company to someone they considered a friend. Competence is not rewarded but rather frowned upon as they escort you out the door. Good people are leaving on their own as the market is beginning to turn around. The only good fortune this company has had in the past 2 years is that a recession hit which forced people to hunker down in current employment regardless of conditions. NEWS FLASH... jobs are readily available now. I say this with an enormous smile on my face as I turn in my notice in the next few weeks to move on to a company that truly cares for their employees instead of just posting it as an "Imperative" to bring the best and the brightest to the table. I think that needs to be re-worded a little. To bring the mediocre and incompetent to the table from outside of Solo at the cheapest price. God forbid they promote from within. Rather, Solo believes in promising and leading on it's employees with the promise of a better opportunity, job, salary, etc... to delay the inevitable... work for Solo long enough and you will see through to the dark, dismal, repugnant, ugly, and obsurd truth. Solo Cup doesn't care about their employees. EVERYONE IS REPLACEABLE!

Not a nice place to work

Pros

Pay is competitive but it is a terrible place to work. New offices in Lake Forest are very nice and at a good location. Good training company as if you can make it there you can make it anywhere.

Cons

Morale is very low. Revolving door at the executive level. Horrible commute if you live in the city. Human Resources has way too much influence and involvement on the other departments. No bonuses as targets set by management, who have fat salaries are too high. 401K match taken away in 2009. Raises are few and far between. Lots of different consultants in and out over the last 5 yrs. New executive new set of consultants. Lots of very skilled and competent employees leaving or being fired. No direction at all from mgmt.
