Pros

Good product that makes a difference in the lives of employees.

Cons

- Read between the lines of other recent “positive” reviews, which speak to managerial over reach, lack of investment in middle management, and micro management. - Take the advice of other earlier reviewers who talk about knowing your work rights, as these will be tested. - Question why this company is throwing up all of these perks, like bring your dog to work day, Friday night drinks, free lunches, and a meditation room, when at the same time representatives are telling anyone who will listen that perks don’t work and are that they are no substitute to evidence based workplace wellbeing initiatives. What does that say about Sonder? - A broken, hustle culture driven by autocratic tech bro cronies. Like many others in the startup “ecosystem”, managers hide behind terms like “high performance culture” to excuse bad behaviour. There is a chronic lack of civility across all levels of this company, which borders on bullying. - Lack of diversity is an absolute joke. - I’ve personally experienced managers mocking mental illness and - as earlier reviewers have pointed out - gossip runs riot here. Really bizarre behaviour and extremely hypocritical. - Too many elitist, but largely ineffectual, middle managers.

Pros

- Highly political, rife with cronyism as the modus operandi. - Lack of diversity, particularly in leadership. - Masculine culture, watch out if you aren’t part of the “boys club” - Double standards, invisible segregation, thrown under the bus, not so collaborative culture. - Feedback processes are not direct, timely or actionable, and can fire back when offered proactively. - Poor communication and lack of transparency from management. - Gaslighting on minority groups (women, culturally diverse, “outside-of-the- circle” employees) is not uncommon. - Work is not efficient, work load is spread unequally between team mates. - Detrimental workplace for females / culturally diverse employees to operate, navigate, and advance in their careers. - An underlying current of sexism and favouritism. - Focus on perception, optics and ego rather than adding value to the company. - Will get rid of you for their own agenda. If the people you support like you and stick up for you, this will not matter. In the end the line manager has their own agenda and will make up any story to get rid of you. - Lack of management skills from people managers and team leaders. - Unclear rules and regulations which make the office disordered and prone to double standards. - If you're the sort of person that enjoys playing office politics all while pretending the company is "fun" or "great", you'll love Sonder.

Cons

Pros

5 word minimum - nothing good to say

Cons

You only have to read the other recent reviews to get a sense of what this 'wellbeing' company is like to actually work for. I'd be reluctant to believe what is marketed to our customers given we can't even manage our own burnt-out and unsupported staff. I have never worked in a place as dysfunctional as Sonder and I think I speak on behalf of the company when I say that. The move to a Mon, Thu & Fri mandatory office is totally out of step with the flexible working arrangements that most other companies offer. Yes I agree at least being in the office 2/3 days a week is useful but mandating the DAYS of the week is archaic and totally tone deaf. The product is so complex and difficult to understand internally never mind our customers get surprised when we aren't able to even the sell product properly given we move the goal-posts so frequently and don't even consult our internal teams first. This company runs a real risk of a mass exodus come next year - so let's see where we end up as a business in 12 months time.
