Pros

Probably the best reason to work at Sonic is the flexible work environment. Most departments are great about flexible work schedules to accommodate personal matters and many employees can work from home when needed. Salaries are fair/average for the area and benefits are good but no 401K matching plan. The Novato office has hot breakfast Fridays and they cater breakfast burritos and sandwiches, occasional eggs and french toast / pancakes, fresh fruit, etc. Santa Clara has donut/danish Fridays with fresh fruit.

Cons

Sonic is faced with a shrinking market for most of its core products. They have made key acquisitions over the years, but seem to struggle with implementation and innovation. In spite of promising acquisitions, it seems Sonic is always behind the curve in terms of product features, user interface, user experience, and general market placement. To date, almost every social media outlet and user review site (not press or mag reviews) give Roxio products and customer service a poor to very poor rating. Stale corporate culture rules both the main offices and teams pretty much keep to themselves and try to make sure their projects meet budget constraints and deadlines without ruffling any feathers. Corporate goals and vision are communicated through PowerPoint via webex without any initiatives throughout the year to participate in where the company is going. No incentives to employees to be a part of the larger picture or means of offering suggestions on products or services. Come on, when most of the company jokes about how they would never install a certain flagship product on their computer because it would cause it to crash - how bad is that?

Confusing at best

Pros

The one good thing about Sonic is that there is often a lot going on there - many different areas of business and certainly lots of comings and goings. In addition because there are many many offices around the world there are often opportunities to visit far off exotic locations.

Cons

However the company changes direction on a day to day basis. Things tend to lurch from one extreme to the other and often times this is done without any direction to the employees. This means that what was priority 5 one day should have been priority 1 a week ago, but no one was informed down the line.
