Pros

Sound Generations used to be a very good organization that produced innovative programs to serve vulnerable adults in King County. The actual service level employees are broadly excellent. A lot of good people work at Sound Generations, outside of leadership. The volunteer transportation team that I was a part of did great work and supported each other. The volunteers I worked with were great people. I loved working directly with and talking to the seniors that we serve.

Cons

Over the last few years, leadership at Sound Generations has deteriorated. Employee morale is now very low, and the high turnover at the organization has been acknowledged by management. Current leadership, including CEO Jim Wigfall, has prioritized cost-cutting at every opportunity, by over-consolidating positions and not properly compensating staff. HR and Accounting have very high rates of turnover, so programs are, currently, being under-supported. As other reviews have discussed, this organization does not care about the truth or even the minimum standards they are supposed to be meeting. As a program receiving public funding, and providing services for the public, we are required to adhere to certain standards. For example, as all of our volunteers use their own vehicles, the vehicles must be up to a certain (high) standard. Recently, a client told me that her driver was driving a car with significant damage. When I reported this to management, they swept it under the rug, and closed the investigation prematurely. I am not fully sure of their motive, but I suspect that they are trying to improve their numbers for grants, by allowing drivers to continue filling requests while driving vehicles that are not up to code.

Pros

Amazingly supportive co-workers, team atmosphere, dedicated staff, feeling like everything you do really makes a difference in people's lives. The people here have a fierce passion for the mission of the organization and they give it their all. A heavy emphasis is placed on Equity and Inclusion and ending systemic oppression. Social Justice intersects with a lot of the work done here.

Cons

The leadership has been terrible this past year, poor decisions being made, funding disappearing like there's no tomorrow, positions getting cut, a feeling of anxiety and panic organization-wide. There is a severe lack of communication from the top down, and given the uncertain financial climate, staff need some reassurance that they aren't going to start cutting whole programs. When staff leave, positions aren't filled and the remaining work is left to be picked up by the rest with no compensation. Pay is mediocre and there are virtually no raises, not even for cost of living, and next to zero opportunities for advancement, while people at the very top make an ungodly amount of money. If you are a workaholic and love the mission and don't mind being taken advantage of, this is a great place to work. Also, they changed the name a YEAR ago and can't bother to update all of their accounts. Worst re-branding process ever.
