Pros

Great benefits (healthcare, subsidy, use of gym) and beautiful campus. Many opportunities to grow spiritually. Faculty very dedicated to creating an atmosphere where students can succeed.

Cons

Everything is great if you are an elder white male who can pretend people who struggle with addiction, homosexuality do not exist within Adventism. If you don't fit this description, you will struggle. Sometimes the leadership is aware but oftentimes dangerously naive.

Pros

Teaching at any university is going to be decent, simply because of the schedule. Southern's people are what make this a great place. Students are great, faculty are generally pretty great. Location and campus are tough to beat as well.

Cons

Top level admin needs to reshuffle the cabinet and rotate a few of these individuals to other institutions, or into non-senior-admin positions on campus. These are nice people, good Christians, and they work hard... but there needs to be some change. Also, although the student body has become very diverse in the last twenty years, the faculty has not and there has been virtually zero effort to remedy this. I am a white professor but realize the need for my colleagues to look more like my students.
