Ample Opportunities to Learn and Make an Impact
Pros
I worked at a large defense company prior to joining Spartan. In a large company, I was only able to work on one part of the engineering process at a time and it was easy to get pigeonholed into one type of work (data analysis, writing requirements, testing, algorithm design, etc.). At Spartan, I am able to work with my teammates on the entire engineering process. This collaborative and fast paced environment allows for plenty of learning opportunities and exposure to each part of the engineering life-cycle. Spartan is a great place to learn while making substantial impact!
Cons
Not a con, but a contrast. In a large company, the structure is often cumbersome, but it was comforting knowing how things have been done and who has completed the tasks in the past. In contrast at Spartan you are often the one setting the precedents for the company or working with teammates to think of how to set up structure (test methods, documentation, requirements, etc.) for future growth. It is great to not be setback by bureaucracy, but you need to be an adaptable and independent employee for the fast-paced work environment
