Pros

Fulfillment at HQ is efficient and effective. The half-day Fridays during Summer were a good idea.

Cons

Any group activities or clubs deemed “optional” are mandatory if you prefer job security (i.e. book club). Pay and benefits are not competitive. Senior management does not take well to criticism and is extremely quick to anger. The OKR framework they use for performance management has become a tool used by senior management as a crutch to validate the existence of their positions because of their lack of qualifications. Even though they do have their business infrastructure somewhat figured out their plans for future growth and improvement are lacking significantly. Every few months they want to rebrand. They fire employees when they decide on a new direction to go with the company - a biannual occurrence. They managed to get a patent for a product that caused thousands in damage before I left. I wish I could say more positives, but I do not believe this company will have continued growth with the narcissism present in the individuals leading the company.

We are sorry to hear that you had a frustrating experience as a part of our Team, as we truly value all of our amazing Team members who help us grow, learn, and reach exciting new milestones everyday. Our OKR framework and leadership development activities are designed to help us align on our most important work and then to develop the capabilities we need to deliver on it, helping us each to stretch into new challenges and grow professionally along the way. It's important that we get timely feedback on these initiatives to continuously improve them, and we also acknowledge that they aren't the right fit for everyone. We do agree that our benefits package needed improvement, and we launched several new benefits and richer coverage in 2021. We definitely kept our summer Fridays, we love that extra time for fun in the nice weather, too! Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective with us. We wish you all the best on your new adventure!

Cons

The problem with this company is they’re growing at a rapid rate but yet haven’t figured out what they’re doing yet. They will tell you a lot of things and say a lot of things but chances are most of what they've told is going to be false. They will tell you that they don’t micromanage but in reality that’s all they do. The second you do your own thing it’s wrong and you’re forced to change it to the way management wants it. An even better situation is constantly getting told your lack of efficiency yet any free time you have is taken up with distractions from management. The days are long and you will be busy from start to finish during the day when not being distracted or hindered from your boss. Next some days/weeks/months will take everything out of you but it’s ok you can ask for help right? Wrong the second you turn to management they’ll come turn it back onto you about being inefficient , this is an endless and constant battle you’ll face. There are quite a few cons working for this company and I don’t necessarily recommend it to anyone unless you’re looking for a micromanaging egotistical workplace I’d look somewhere else.

Thanks for your honest feedback, and we are disappointed to hear that we failed to meet your expectations. As you mention, we are growing at a rapid rate and, as is one of our core values, we are learning, growing and improving all the time. We will certainly use your feedback on our cons and advice to management to improve our employee management and business operations. We appreciate all your hard work during the time you spent with us.

Pros

I've worked at Spire for 2 years now and this is definitely my favorite job I've had. I had worked for nothing but big corporations before starting at Spire. The contrast between working for a big corporation and Spire is night and day. Pros of the company are that you get a small company atmosphere where everyone is a team. Everyone works toward a common purpose of helping the company grow. At Spire, I feel like my work actually has purpose and directly impacts the business. This has made me work even harder and care about my job more than any I ever had. Expectations are high, but also attainable. If you work hard, you're rewarded. I've had several salary increases and a promotion since starting all because I put in the hard work.

Cons

The biggest con I can think of isn't really even a con, more of a side effect of the company. This is a growing, but still small business. There aren't always a set of way of doing things, and in a lot of cases with new hires, people are hired specifically to help standardize the way things are done. People wanting to work for Spire should have the mindset that since this is a small company, you will be creating the standard.
