It was a good experience

Pros

Supportive work environment with clear processes and expectations. Team members are approachable, and the overall workflow is well-organized. The role helped me build discipline and hands-on experience in a structured setting.

Cons

Break times during shifts could be slightly improved. An additional 10–15 minute break for 8-hour shifts, and one short break for 5-hour shifts, would greatly help with focus and energy levels.

Pros

Good staff discount, most of the staff are great to work with, hours can be great.

Cons

Below average pay (especially for a service shop technician, minimum wage is not ok). Recognition for work done is rarely given from any senior employees, part-time employees are treated inferior to full time staff & management. Annual Performance Review for employees is a joke and management tell you that your overall score based on performance, sales & customer service does not count towards your wage increase.. yet from what I've seen an heard it does. No incentive is given for hard work or chances to further better yourself as a employee apart from senior staff & management. Product knowledge days/nights very rarely are organized also. Head office and store management would often clash.

Feeling under appreciated

Pros

SportChek has a good discount for employees. It also has a good system for having to book time off and scheduling and such. My coworkers make working at Sportchek lots of fun.

Cons

Management expects way too much of it's employees and doesn't appreciate the work that they do for them. I feel like I whatever I do is never enough. Managers often times "bark" out orders at us, expect us to get everything done and provide good customer service, while they sit up in the office and rarely come on the floor to help out. Whenever we call a manager to the floor for customer service, they always take forever coming down...leaving us to deal with customer, who is becoming more impatient. When those of us on the front lines make suggestions as to how we can improve things, they don't listen; even though we know it will work. Those who hold higher positions at Sportchek really have no idea what it's like to actually be on the floor serving customers. We are often asked to do impossible tasks, which frequently decreases our ability to simply serve the customer and give them the "Sportchek experience". Removal of our 15 minutes breaks was the worst decision ever. Being on your feet for four hours straight is extremely tiring...especially when you are expected to be all over the store. By the end of the shift, we are exhausted, which decreases our productivity. Even this quick 15 minute break, makes a huge difference in the long run. How is it fair that our managers get to sit in their office and "break" for a bit, while the employers have to work like dogs to run the store?
