Bad District for new teachers, especially.
Pros
There are some good people in charge of the subjects at the district level. Also, the teachers that volunteered at enrichment/teacher in-service training were very good with great tips and great generous attitudes toward sharing their knowledge.
Cons
I was pretty much left to sink or swim---totally without any help or guidance. I was assigned a mentor teacher who had only taught for 2 years and was very reluctant to be my mentor. In fact, she told me that she did not know why she was assigned to be my mentor since she had only taught for 2 years. She did not want me asking her any questions and when i would ask she would answer, but look at me like she thought that I was incompetent. It was very grudging on her part and I stopped asking her questions, because of her attitude toward me. Add to this that the principal told me that he did not "like" textbooks or worksheets--meaning that I was not supposed to use textbooks or worksheets. I was a brand new teacher, not supposed to use worksheets or textbooks. It was very tough. Also, my classroom was self contained--meaning I taught all subjects every day. It was so stressful that I lost so much weight that my pants were really baggy and I had to cinch them with my belt or they would fall off.
