Pros

Hotels are typically pretty reliable, especially larger chains. Their hotels are virtually the same across the globe, so you know what to expect. Their locations are usually fairly close to the center of the city as well. Room service, maid service, and other services are usually included.

Cons

Because hotels, especially chains, are virtually the same around the world, you may be giving up a cultural experience. Hotels can be more expensive than other forms of accommodations as well. Rooms rarely have a kitchen to cook your own meals, forcing you to go out for meals and spend more money on your trip.

Pros

None at all, don't work here

Cons

Management is a mess. Staff turnover is high, people even leaving within days of being hired- some even leave on the day and don't come back. No structure, health and safety is a mess. The hotel is disgusting and has many problems with bedbugs, water etc which everyone who works there knows about but they will never fix it, they expect us to lie to guests and say this has never happened before even if it happens daily. Policy is always to lie, not be helpful, and patch things up. Some nice people do work here but nearly everyone wants to leave, you hear people constantly talking about other interviews and quitting. Management doesn't seem to try and keep people, instead they hire 16 year olds with no experience and put them on shifts with only one person to train them, without giving us more money for having to train new people. Some people who work at st giles are downright rude, especially the 'st giles family' who have been there years. Probably annoyed that you will be leaving and they have to stick around.

Pros

It gets you used to fast paced hospitality jobs The staff there do care and are welcoming and helpful

Cons

The pay is not in line with other hospitality jobs so many people use it as a starter receptionist job and leave after they’ve finished training, causing a constant stream of people coming and going. Because most receptionists are new at all times the level of service they can give isn’t as high as it should be, and they have to rely on management to help out whenever something goes wrong. The hours are long and because of understaffing they often ask you to do overtime Because of understaffing you are working a lot harder then you should be, and the environment is stressful and sometimes chaotic. Get used to being complained at 24/7 as the hotel is starting to show its age.
