Pros

The pay is decent, parking is good, and they offer decent benefits, although nothing amazing. I like that there are 8 and 12 hour shifts throughout different units.

Cons

Unit managers are really bad on some units. The ACE unit and 4 North. Horrible! Float nurses would always talk about how they HATED those two units the most out of all of the units. Manager and her management team are shady and do unethical things towards employees they do not like. They lie. Tell you one thing, and then pretend they never said that. ALWAYS get everything in writing. Emails only. Don't trust what they say to your face.

Pros

Staff really bend over backwards to make their patients happy.

Cons

Nursing is short staffed, especially nursing support staff. Staffing ratios are still better than many places in the country. 1:4 on days in PCU and Medsurg. 1:5 on nights. Unless you are in stroke unit, 1:7 at night, I last heard.

Pros

They have a brand new tower with all private rooms that makes doing your job much easier. There is a large employee parking lot so nobody has to pay for parking or take a shuttle to and from your car.

Cons

For the past 5 years we have not received raises and the one raise we did get was around 35 cents. They spend money on wasteful products such as our new "hourly rounding" sheets that I have personally witnessed being tossed in the trash by the hundreds. The decision makers for this hospital make all of these changes but never once talk to an employee to get any knowledge that would actually benefit our job in any way. There is no job security at this hospital in any way, any employee could be let go at any time and there is nothing they could do about it. On average most nurses have 6 patients when they arrive and I have seen it go up to 7 on more than one occasion. That many patients causes a lot of stress on staff and is very unsafe from a nursing stand point.
