Pros
I work as Event Security at concerts and sports venues for Staff-1. The supervisors are great, they give clear, precise expectations and are never too busy to for you to ask a question, give assistance and help with new employees. The scheduling staff is great, you get plenty of opportunities to work events you desire and you get to move around to different positions to gain experience (if you desire to move around). They will give you frequent breaks as needed and check back from time to time during the event to make sure you're ok or need anything. The payroll works very well, so far, checks have never been late or incorrect. This is a great part-time job as long as you are doing it for the fun work environment, enjoy working with very large crowds of people and are not depending on this as a stable source of income. You either love it or don't, there is not a lot of middle ground. Safety is a high priority with Staff-1, you will not get assigned to a position you are not comfortable with and volatile situations are always handled by 2-4 (or more) trained security personnel, you will not go into a dangerous situation alone.
Cons
Due to the Affordable Care Act, all security and staff positions are part time. As a result, it is difficult to maintain proper staffing levels as employees have to work other jobs which often reduces the time they are available to work. Often, the struggle gets worsened by people calling out after they had already committed to work. This puts more stress on the remaining working employees that are often tasked with larger areas of responsibility. There are always a large number of new employees at every event that require more time of the supervisors and place the experienced staff in the more difficult positions. Also, due the extreme hiring crunch, many of the new hires are not assertive enough for a security type of job or crowd management, get assigned to a position they are comfortable with and get very bored a quit shortly thereafter, then the cycle repeats.
