      Not worth it

      Pros

      The staff the doctors and everyone at corporate are all friendly and nice. DM was always there to support me give great feedback and to listen. Good vision benefits and the potential to make good commission.

      Cons

      This company can't pay its bills. Always on hold with vendors so we are forced to sell what we have in stock-even if a customer wants a different color and is willing to pay extra. Can't hold onto staff and turnover is a joke. Base pay is $7.50.

      Pros

      Training was pretty good. There is a corporate trainer that assists with getting employees ABO Certified with weekly classes. But as a new-hire be prepared to get thrown into the fire because new hire training (done by the same person) is not worth the time. Too much to learn in a small amount of time. Health insurance wasn't terrible.

      Cons

      Where to begin? Pay is terrible. Starting is $7.25 an hour plus commissions. The "average" pay they give to potential employees is misleading and based on offices that are very busy. If you end up at an office that sees very few patients, you will be making minimum wage. They also steal a percentage of your commissions if certain sales goals are not met. Up to 20%.

      Pros

      Not a lot honestly. They have some fun people that work there but a lot of people that I worked with were not happy with the company. They have so-so health insurance, and decent optical benefits and discounts.

      Cons

      It's true that they don't pay very much, most people could make more at an "In-n-Out" flipping burgers. Hands down the worst part of working at Standard Optical is their management and ownership. The owners aren't nice and the management is in over their ski's. One of the biggest cons is that you have nowhere to advance in the company. Every job is pretty much dead-end.
