Pros

Work-life balance is genuinely good if you're proactive about it — remote working can be arranged and the company doesn't generally demand unreasonable hours. The company is also willing to support professional qualifications, which is a real benefit if you're looking to build a career in technical skill such as accounting. If you're interested in Japanese business culture, there's no shortage of that here.

Cons

Pay is below market rate and progression is essentially non-existent — there is no structured career development framework and advancement happens slowly if at all. The culture is heavily top-down and very Japanese in its decision-making style, which can be frustrating if you're used to more direct or merit-based environments. Consensus is valued over speed, and pushing for change requires patience and soft influence rather than direct advocacy.
