Built on False Promises

Pros

Decent pay/benefits, and summer vacation time (because it's the only way this place can retain decent talent).

Cons

Business is built around aggressive greed/fear marketing tactics. Every promotion they run is either about the "End of America" or hyping the next opportunity to "score 847% returns". So-called investment advice that would be laughed out of any serious Wall St firm. Many upper level managers have little or no real financial background. They've been banned from Facebook and Google for their advertising practices -what more do you need to know?

Pros

Fellow coworkers are fantastic. Great congeniality. Great pay. Office is beautiful and well maintained. Equipment is modern and IT is genuinely supportive. Great work/life balance. There are monthly parties with free food, beer, and wine. Some Management is truly really good at what they do. (See Cons about the rest) The parent company Agora is great. Very supportive and offer superb benefits packages.

Cons

As a long term employee I have witnessed the company change and while some changes were good, like the new offices, many changes have happened that have made the working environment an unhealthy one. Management is nasty, snarky and dismissive. Most of management have no management background or experience. HR is is effectively nonexistent. Cliques dominate the interoffice politics. Employees have no chance of advancing unless they are in a clique. The environment and tone set by management at all levels is generally unprofessional. More of a "Boys Club" full of a bunch of friends than any sort of modern standard. Employees are regularly insulted, degraded and disrespected by management. Employees are yelled at and otherwise verbally abused often. Sexual harassment by top level management is known but allowed to run rampant and unchecked. Female employees actively avoid being alone in rooms with specific members of management. Racist and sexist jokes are regularly made by management of all levels. This is also known and allowed to happen. Feedback from employees is ignored, repressed and actively attacked by Management that perceive everything as an attack on themselves personally. Inter company communication struggles immensely. Employees rarely understand or know what direction the company is going, it's financial health, and it's future goals. Top level communication is often in a nasty, dismissive tone that is reminiscent of a stern parent scolding children. Recently the CEO bribed employees to write a review on Glassdoor by giving away free vacation. There are no uniform standards or methods. Department heads are more interested in protecting their power and position than fostering interdepartmental communication. Mid level management work together to subvert employees that they feel threaten their positions. Management is retaliatory towards staff that complain about the working environment or management behavior.

Pros

Amazing people to work with and a fun environment. The pay is great and there are fun incentives like summer weeks off.

Cons

It is easy to miss all the politics when there are constantly happy hours and fun work outings- but there is absolutely no loyalty to anyone who is not part of the "club" The company is very cliquey and the only room for advancement and growth is dependent on who you know. There is no transparency or open communication. The marketing is sketchy at best and there is a serious lack of communication between departments.
