Cons

I had a disappointing experience working at Star Security, which I found to be poorly managed. I was hired directly by one of the owners after a mutual contact recommended me. Initially, I was optimistic about the opportunity for skill advancement and flexible scheduling, given my background in security. Unfortunately, those promises did not materialize. Early on, management recognized my existing skills and experience but instead of supporting my growth, they took advantage of it. On my second shift, I was assigned to coordinate about 15 guards at a concert venue, all of whom were working their very first security shift. I requested to be recognized as a senior guard or supervisor, considering my experience, but my concerns were repeatedly dismissed. The situation became more troubling when I learned about the scheduling manager, known as “Rickey the rapist.” I heard from colleagues that Rickey, a close friend of the owner, had a troubling history, having been convicted of sexual assault while in uniform. Rather than addressing this serious issue, the company allegedly funded his legal defense and promoted him to a position that didn’t require a valid security license or background check. My experience with Rickey was disheartening. When I informed him that I had a full-time job and couldn’t cover weekday shifts, he essentially threatened my employment if I didn’t comply. This was the final straw, and I decided to quit on the spot. In my years as a site supervisor, I have never felt it necessary to threaten someone’s job to fill a shift. Rickey's presence is a significant red flag for Star Security's reputation. If you’re an experienced security guard, I recommend looking elsewhere. If you’re new to the field, seek out a company that values training and mentorship rather than throwing you into challenging situations without proper support.
