Pros

Cozy, brightly lit office located in center Stockholm which is easy for commuters to get to. This team impressed me with how well they adapted and worked together while fully remote during this pandemic. If you love horses, this IP and wish to meet more people who share this interest, perhaps Star Stable Entertainment will appeal to you. Before COVID-19, you were able to work from home when you wanted to, I thought that was wonderful. CEO seemed pretty friendly.

Cons

Toxic, passive-aggressive, downright abusive environment. It felt like I was in high school again. There are many employees that are generally very nice, but I was appalled to witness cases of workplace bullying. If you do not "fit-in" they will try to push you out, as I've seen happen. HR will never support you if you end up in such a situation though. Worst tech debt I’ve encountered in the industry. Their game is severely janky, outdated, and littered with bugs that have been in the game for years, but management seems more concerned with constantly adding new horses into the game because it creates revenue. There’s a high turn over rate. Experienced and eager talent seem to only last a couple of months/less than a year before moving onto something else, mostly due to there being little to no opportunities offered and management seems to hardly listen to feedback when offered.

Pros

Been holding off writing this seeing I want to be as honest as I can. This place can really be the best workplace you've ever worked at if you want it to be, and I often speak really high of it and recommends it for people looking for work. Met some of the best people I ever had the chance to work with here. People I will be proud of calling friends and hopefully coworkers in the future too. The product and IP is fun to work with and it really has some of the best community out there that a game could have. If somewhat too forgiving and patient seeing how monetary focused this company obviously is towards their young players, rather than seeing to their audience best interest and needs. No real change to the product has been made for years rather than presenting new consumables. If you want to develop yourself, there's tons of opportunity to do so by yourself but just don't assume that any of it will be applicable into the production line or that any advancements in tech or new ways of working will be incorporated. Which brings me to the cons.

Cons

Any real talent, seniors or otherwise eager and positive hires wanting to really make some change in the company won't last 6 months. I've seen them come and go all trying their best working against the conservative mindset of the production as a whole and leadership. If you're looking into working there yourself be prepared that it's just a day to day job with little to no possibility to make any real changes. If you're okay with that then it's a fine place to work on with a lot of social benefits and stability throughout the years. That comfort is the real reason a lot of people are okay with the workplace and there is a huge amount of people still at the company who have been around for years and years. I've personally developed more in just the short amount of time after leaving the company than I did for the entirety of the stay I had there. And again, if that is something that you aspire too then by all means it's comforting and relaxing to work there. I've seen people working there wanting to give back to their community of players only for it to have gotten a price tag put on it. I've seen programmers work on new cool features pushed aside and forgotten seeing it's not sellable. Also, most senior and lead positions around the company have no real prior experience working with people management or having authority and responsibility over others but rather usually just casually given to people having had worked in the company long enough. Which leads to some bad middle management behaviors sometimes.

Lovely people, relaxed atmosphere, misplaced priorities

Pros

Possibly the nicest work culture I've ever experienced. The people are, overall, great to be around. Work-life balance felt good; I personally never had to work overtime, which I'd been afraid of when entering the industry. Working hours are very comfortable as well. Excellent benefits, with a high health allowance and a competitive pension plan.

Cons

Career prospects are minimal, as is salary growth. Change happens slowly, if at all. It's easy to feel like management/HR has forgotten about things they've promised, or simply do not care. Tech debt and poor tools has caused several devs to quit, and yet little priority is put on resolving either of those issues. Management has expressed little interest in making SSO (the main product) a more engaging game, opting instead to focus on creating more horses which drive revenue.
