Cons
Oh man, where do I even start? First and foremost, let's talk about the CEO of the company. Can someone please explain how in the world he is running this company after he ran his previous one to the ground? How was HE selected to run a company that he had no idea what we did? Pay - Forget getting about getting a raise. My coworker has worked for the company for YEARS and have not got a raise, I think it's because the company does not see the value of his position like many other positions within starship. Also regarding pay, because a lot of us are students, the "bottom of the barrel" get paid pretty poorly, and almost never see a raise and it's pretty hard to get work your way up if you are starting as a CEA. Covid - we lost some great employees and coworkers because you have to be vaccinated to work here. This all started because of the Biden law that everyone had to be vaccinated at jobs that have more than 100 workers. But that was overturned in the Supreme Court and the company still pushed for it and is still enforcing it. My friend could not even apply because he was not vaccinated. Work-life balance - YA RIGHT! I heard that several employees still gets messages way after they clocked out and were home. You are expected to respond to emails and slack messages when you are off because everything is a life or death situation at starship. Oh and not only is everything life or death, but you are EXPECTED to go above and beyond your normal job duties and do the work of others. If you don't pick up the slack of others who get paid well above you, then you are seen as being difficult and an unreliable employee and you will be told to reevaluate what you want out of this job. You are expected to run several locations do several projects (never with any recognition of a job well done) but your pay will never reflect this. You'll only be told that it's "part of the job". "Astaff" - aka the higher ups. Is this all their first jobs? The best way to describe how they make business decisions is grabbing a piece of paper, writing some ideas on the paper and throwing a dart to see where it lands and going with that decision. I don't know how some people were even hired for the job. They are focusing so much on growth that they are moving too fast and forgetting to take care of their current employees. They want to expand starship but they cant even manage the locations they have in the US now. I think like most companies, the CEO and other C-suite employees make decisions without actually talking to everyone that are on the ground and working the field. Managers were made aware of situations that were happening well in advance from the teams who were working on the field. But no one ever took responsibility of those situations! People would bring up so many issues and problems and even ideas to our managers but they just gave us a pat on the back and told us to continue working. Wow ok, well if you don't want to listen to us, then who can we go to?The HR team also is a drag. How about hire someone who is compassionate to others, and not cold and stand off-ish. People did not like going to HR because of the attitude you would receive. The company is mainly based in Europe and you can tell the difference between European practices and American practices. Our training here in the States is non-existent. I can't speak on how the Europeans get trained but hopefully it's better than how I was trained. I was given material to read and the next day was told to go and do it. Forget trying to contact my manager for help, he was always too busy or told me to get help from a coworker. what else can I say besides the work environment. Talking to certain individuals from certain teams was just toxic. And when you try to take it to HR, just toxic there too. Best thing I ever did was get another job. I left at the right time too because apparently things have just gotten worse.
