Pros
After having worked at many companies in my life I can say with confidence that StartX is the best placed I have ever worked. The organization has an amazing culture of meritocracy, open feedback, and transparency. The focus of the organization toward its mission is unparalleled. In all my other jobs I had to wait a long time to see the impact that my work had, in StartX you have a faster feedback cycle on the impact that you are creating. For me having an impact was a very important consideration that was well fulfilled here. The organization provides you with roles and responsibilities where not only you can have an impact but also learn at a rapid pace. That huge learning was the second best thing at StartX. I have grown exponentially as a professional during my time at StartX. All this would not be possible if it were not for Cameron who has structured the organization and the culture from the nascent stages. Having worked with him for 2 + years I am amazed at the level of maturity, leadership, and selflessnesses that he brought to the table. Having run billion $ business earlier in my career I have worked with different leaders who had many more years of experience than him, but I was pleasantly surprised at his galvanizing capabilities as a leader. I will rate him as the top 1% of the people I have ever worked with. Please do note, every one including me has areas of improvements, the same is true for Cameron. The incredible part is his capacity to take feedback and work on self-development, without any ego issues. That is the best thing I picked up from him. The best part of StartX is the sheer high caliber of people you are always surrounded by and learn from. I have never been in an environment where I learned every day
To sum this up this is a great place to work for if you want to learn and have an impact.
Cons
The organization needs to focus on scaling its impact with operational efficiency. As a non-profit they should focus on scaling without a lot of money. We have taken a lot of steps in that direction and should take more.
If you want to just do a job and get all the silicon valley perks this is not the right place for you. People who enjoy and do well at StartX are the folks who are mission oriented and want to learn and grow as professionals
