The studio was sold on a lie

Pros

You could work on some cool projects.

Cons

You could be promised a project when you first start and then get taking off for not meeting expectations (which communication of expectations is lacking from managment) or any number of other reasons. While there is support from the leads, there's been multiple instances of them degrading or critisizing their own team members on the studio floor in front of everyone. There's no checks for the leads or managment, so it's whatever they say goes. Stability in the studio is also uncertain, as it depends on winning contracts. If they don't win enough to support the amount of people currently working there, layoffs could follow.

Pros

Well, it's mostly game work, so that's cool. Some general animation work as well. Studio has decent amenities, nothing amazing.

Cons

One of the founders is super creepy, and he's a big part of the reason why I decided to leave (inappropriate comments, 'accidental' touching) Can be very petty and political, expect to be thrown under the bus. Leadership has a clear bias toward their friends and long-time employees. The original game project was in development hell for a while. It's a pretty small scope project, but they just couldn't get it together. Lots of backers would be livid if they knew the behind the scenes of this game's development. I also wasn't cool with people doing drugs in the parking lot and even in the studio when not many people are still in (late night, holidays, etc). I've heard rumors that high level staff are OK with it or even involved...

Pros

They're pretty good at recruiting genuine talent, I worked with some amazing artists and A+ leads during my time there. Large variety of projects, which can be a double edged sword (you won't get bored, but high likelihood of working on some stinkers.) In my experience, crunch happened, but no unpaid overtime (was always compensated "appropriately" in comparison to my base rate.)

Cons

Basically everyone was being underpaid; mid level artists and even some newer juniors were making more than leads that had been with the studio for years. If you got in early, you were likely being screwed over as newer talent was paid higher and more attractive wages, and even the newer wages weren't great. Mount Dora is a relatively low cost area to live in, but it's an extremely small town with nothing much to do if you're not married with 2.5 kids (also, it's in Florida, which is extremely yikes.) I also heard plenty of horror stories from fellow employees re: being shouted down and disrespected by leadership behind closed doors. Because I got assigned to a stream of lower tier "garbage contract" projects in my last year at the studio, I also left the studio with barely any work fit for a demo reel, which really hurt me in my job hunt after my time with them ended.
