Pros

Small town atmosphere, some very talented students, some excellent faculty, historic campus, excellent theatre on campus, excellent creative writing initiatives, super popular pet policy for students.

Cons

Nasty petty childish infighting among people, senior faculty bullies, low salaries, low retirement match, expensive health care, poorly trained and inexperienced staff, small minded people, toxic at times, overly controlling administration, top-down management style, poor communication, lack of trust, high turn-over, insecurity, falling enrollment, poor management, gas lighting common.

Pros

The students, faculty and the staff. Alot of ability to be creative at your job. Also, lots of opportunities to learn new things as others left.

Cons

Poor leadership, lack of direction, lack of communication. President goes after people to hurt them if she is challenged in any way by them. She is very untruthful.

Struggling College

Pros

Kind, decent colleagues. Most students are eager to learn. Small classrooms encourage personal interactions with students.

Cons

Administration not supportive of faculty and offer poor leadership overall (mysterious meetings called with no agenda provided, selectively share relevant information, etc.). Administration are mistrustful of faculty and tend to micromanage work activities. Curiously, for a women's college, administration seem to offer preferential treatment to male staff and faculty in terms of deferring to male opinions. Expectations for attendance at extracurricular activities also seems to be biased according to gender (at least within my home department). Some faculty have suggested men receive higher salaries than women though this is not publicly available information and cannot be confirmed. Depending on your role and department, this can be a gossipy, unprofessional, and disorganized place to work. Faculty are incredibly demoralized. Many are overwhelmed by their myriad responsibilities.
