Pros

The company is setting a new foundation with training programs for Ophthalmic Technicians and Opticians to develop a career path into the eyecare industry. The focus is an educated staff for our patients and providers. I joined the practice mid-March, and this is my top priority!

Cons

Many moving parts and unstructured systems oversight. These "cons" are being addressed on a daily basis as we pull together and develop a strong foundation of patient centered care.

Pros

As someone who gives 110% at their job (most times), I enjoy the opportunity to grow in many areas of the company. I have grown a tremendous amount, this job has helped me develop skills and practices I will use throughout my life. There is a role for every personality. I love working with most of my coworkers and colleagues, we truly work as a team majority of the time! There is so much to learn which could be overwhelming at times but there are always team members available to ask questions. We work with a PA that used to tech for the owner previously which is really cool. I have had the opportunity to become certified as a scribe and am looking to become a Certified Ophthalmmic Assistant and so on. (Which the company reimburses you) All of the Doctors are always willing to teach and answer any questions I may have. It is extremely rewarding if you like to learn and are looking to invest in yourself. I love the patient interaction and being helpful. Again, it is extremely rewarding if you are willing to take the initiative. I definitely see myself continuing my career with Sterling Vision.

Cons

Lack of staff/Turn over. I know we’re hiring constantly but some people just are not cut out to work in healthcare and that’s okay. Most people end up quitting within the first 2-3 weeks because they cannot perform basic duties and I would understand the feeling of being a constant failure is too disappointing? Lack of management but I know the company is working on it daily. Lack of work ethic; seems like some people come to work just for a check which imo are not the best people to work with especially in a customer service/healthcare role. Seems like most employees gossip instead of doing their job. Hence this thread. The owner gets a bad wrap because he’s direct and has high standards. Unfortunately, one bad impression can have a lasting impact. They say it takes 8 positive encounters to get on an even keel for one negative encounter. Kind of interesting to think about.
