Pros

Facilty, employees and clientele are nice. Good location. Laundry is done off site. If you have a gap in appointments or only 1 massage you can leave as long as you can be back if they call you within an hour.

Cons

Owner takes 10% of your tips. Owner takes 10% of your tips and 5% more from groups. Owner charges a treatment fee of 8-12% based on your repeat clientele. Owner also gives a 10% rebook discount but employee has to take the whole10% off their commission. Owner pays 35% commission minus 8-12% treatment fee and takes 10% of your tip money. Only your commission rate, your tip amount and your retail commission are listed on your paycheck stub. The other fees she takes, like your treatment fee, the 10% of your tips are not listed The owner does not want to waste paper so she will not give you a computer run of all your clients and tips for that pay period. Employees must tabulate theirr paychecks themselves to see if they are correct. A lot of times they are not correct. Owner has manditory meetings of which you are not paid for. Owner does not offer free services to employees, employees have to pay a "room fee" to get a massage or facial. For the last few years of working there the massage therapists got a deduction in pay. First year owner took 4% from all of the therapists commission since she went from contract labor to employee status. Next year she raised the requirements of the treatment fees to make the %percentage higher in what she takes out. The next year she took 10% out of our tips to cover what she calls a franchise tax that she has to pay monthly. Owner does not value her employees. Everyone is replacable in her eyes. If you put in a 2 week notice she usually dismisses you within a few days after calling all your clients. You will never get a pay raise while working there only a decrease. Also you are required to do donation massages for free. There is no room to grow. The morale is low. Owner doesn't want clients to be asked if they want to leave a gratuity. Esteticians seniority is based on how much product they sell not on how many years they have worked and built the business. Massage therapists seniority is based on how many repeat clients they get not on how many years they have worked and built the business. Cheap plastic cups offered to clients with 4 pretzels and no bottles of water and just tap water in a large drink container with a few lemons cut up. One glass of wine minimum. Steam rooms are turned on only on the weekends, they use too much electricity during the week. Robes are rough, some with holes in them. Owner keeps the spa very hot. The rooms are humid and about 79 degrees. Will not turn up for employees or if clients complain. Owner never advertises so if you are a new employee count on not getting called for an appointment for 1 or 2 days a week. Owner makes sure all 7 massage rooms have a therapist to cover making it so there are too many people on call and most people will only get one or two massages a day. On Saturdays the max you can get are 4 massages. Shifts are only 5 to 6 hours. Hard to make a living at this spa.

Pros

Spa is pretty. Good location. Quality products offered.

Cons

Owner takes 10% of tips and another 5% of groups. Owner bases seniority on how much you sell not years of service and loyalty. Owner makes you sign a non-compete agreement to be hired there. Owner gives good appointments to the estheticians that sell the most.
