- the only benefit that wasn't salary was a second rate healthcare plan - Boss's ego. His office is filled with notebook embossed with his name, and during my last week of employment there a solid 1/3 of our team meeting was spent listening to him talk about how much smarter he was than all of his high school teachers and how they were unqualified to teach the SAT. This wasn't an isolated incident either - the boss is a decent tutor but not a good CEO/leader by any stretch of the imagination. - Lack of guidance/structure: I was overheard giving a less than ideal explanation for a problem (not incorrect, just not as efficient) and was put on probation. On the surface they promote "learning takes time, every kid is special," but behind closed doors they're just looking for instant results and frequently refer to their students as either dumb or smart. Some of the tutors I knew wouldn't bother explaining problems to kids because they didn't think the kid would understand it even if they did. While it could speak to the ethos of the individual tutor, that culture permeated throughout the entire company. - No upward mobility: literally the only way to progress beyond Streamline as a tutor is to go out on your own with your own clients, but they explicitly curtail this by having a non-compete clause as part of your employment contract.
